If we consider that Sarkozy was the liberal candidate in 2007 French presidential election, then your map works, except for Brittany and Flandre whose people voted Left like Central and Southwestern French.

The electoral maps actually reflects quite well the north-east vs south-west divide that is found in phenotypes, haplogroups, as well as in the individualism. The pink (Socialist) départments are mostly in the centre, west and southwest, corresponding to more collectivist regions. The most pro-Sarkozy départments are also the most individualistic.Quote:

You also have to take into account that the blue area are not regions that voted for liberal policy but for anti immigration policy (especially Alsace and French riviera).

If we think of Individualism and Collectivism in an economic sense then we could say deregulation (anglo-american model) vs Regulated (French). The documentary talks about Sarkozys attempts to make the French economy more 'american', only to make a u-turn after the recession and proclaim the 'old French ways' to be better :rolleyes2:.
