The Eupedia Forum is a community of people who share a deep interest in Europe and European culture. We invite you to join our discussions, but ask you to adhere to the following rules:
MINIMUM AGE
Discussions on the Eupedia Forum are for a mature audience. We are aware that maturity can vary greatly across people of a same age. Nevertheless we would like to set a minimum age of 18 years old to join our community.
MUTUAL RESPECT
We built the Eupedia Forum on mutual respect. Feel at home and behave as if this forum is yours. Indeed, before you post pretend you run this forum: would you accept the message you intend to publish on your own forum? We encourage controversial discussion as long as you show respect to other members and their views/opinions. Avoid flaming, baiting, trolling and other offensive or profane behaviour. Don't launch personal attacks.
If you feel a discussion is getting out of hand contact the forum administrator or a moderator in order to resolve the issue.
WELCOME NEW MEMBERS
When new members arrive, welcome them to our community. Help them learn about how to find information and resources, so they will get involved in the community much faster and easier.
KEEP YOUR POSTS (FAMILY-)FRIENDLY
Please avoid explicit, obscene or vulgar language, graphics or behavior. Forum posts that contain explicit, obscene or vulgar language will be removed. We do not allow links to web sites with adult, hateful or other inappropriate content as well as sites that offer pirated software ("warez").
AVOID DUPLICATE POSTS
Do not post the same message more than once on a forum or on many forum sections. Duplicate posts will be deleted. Reposting the same message repeatedly can be interpreted as spam and could result in the loss of your membership.
MIND YOUR WRITING STYLE
We do understand that many members, including some Team Members, are not native speakers of English. But by respect to your readers, please do an effort, especially if English is your mother tongue, to type in a manner that does not repel people from reading your posts. For instance, remember to capitalise the first letter at the beginning of a sentence, capitalise proper nouns, use commas to divide long sentences, try to avoid excessive typing mistakes...
STAY ON TOPIC
Avoid posting messages that are out of context or irrelevant to a topic. While we encourage your participation, such posts will either be moved to another forum or deleted in order to ensure a thread's consistency.
NON EUROPE-RELATED POSTS
The General Discussion category contains several subforums aimed at topics others than strictly about Europe. Although we do have a subforum for 'Non-European News', we kindly ask you to post topics about Japan and China on our sister forum on Jref.com
AVOID RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDA
The Religion & philosophy subforum is a place for rational discussions and analysis, and to share one's reasoning on various philosophical matters. Please refrain from posting the views of an organised religion, religious institution or copying passages from holy books (e.g. Bible, Quran...) with the aim of proselytising (use of such passages for analysis and comparison with other texts are welcome though). We won't accept religious extremists on the forum.
ADVERTISING
Non-commercial advertising is only allowed in specific fora. Self-promotion and advertising in other forum sections will be removed. We consider posting such unrelated messages as spam and will revoke your membership without prior announcement.
SIGNATURES
All signatures should not exceed the following size limits: for text images 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 90 characters per line. Empty lines are also counted. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed; for images in signatures: one image up to 300 pixels wide, 100 pixels tall and 20k in size; for text and image, you can have a maximum of 2 normal lines (or 4 small lines) and one image (in a new line) up to 300 pixels wide, 60 pixels tall and 15k in size.
POST OWNERSHIP
Posts are considered the opinion of the poster, and are not necessarily endorsed or approved by Eupedia. When posting on the Eupedia Forum, you grant perpetual non-exclusive rights to Eupedia to republish, in any form, the posted material. Please note that we do not delete accounts, posts and/or threads unless they violate our Forum Rules or ToS.
COPYING FROM EXTERNAL SOURCES
A link to the original website should be provided for any copyrighted materials or articles copied from a source other than Eupedia.com.
PERSONAL INFORMATION AND COOKIES
The Eupedia Forum collects personal information including your email address and your IP address for all activity. This information will not be sold or rented to any third party entity. The forum software uses cookies to track certain information including read posts, forums and at your option to log you into the software automatically. In order to protect you all email addresses are verified before registration is finalized. For more information please refer to our Privacy Statement.
FLAG LOCATION
Members are required to choose a flag indicating their geographic location. We sometimes have more than one political level (country, state, region) possible for one location. If more than one is applicable, choose whichever you prefer. However, we do not allow users to "lie" about their location, especially with the intent to deceive other members. Note that nationality, ethnic group and geographic location are all separate profile fields (only the latter is compulsory). We reserve the right to verify your country's location through your IP address. If any discrepancy is found, an admin or moderator could change your flag location, or even ban you if (s)he judges that it constitutes a serious abuse.
MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
We do not allow users to have more than one account. We reserve the right to compare your IP address(es) with that of other registered members to prevent identity fraud. People banned temporarily who continue posting under another username will be banned permanently.
DELETION OF ACCOUNT
We do not delete user accounts or threads on request as this could compromise the contributions of other users. If you intend not to participate in discussions any longer, just refrain from posting. If you do not want to receive updates and emails related to the forum or want to delete your profile's information, please change your settings directly from your account.
FORUM MODERATION
It is the task and responsibility of administrators (admins) and moderators (mods) to enforce forum rules. This includes (when appropriate) : splitting threads going offtopic, merging similar threads, merging numerous succesive posts by a same member, deleting offensive or irrelevant posts or threads, checking for fraudulent multiple accounts or false flag location, as well as warning and banning misbehaving members.
Any member baiting, provoking, insulting or abusing one or more Team Member (admin or mod) will be sanctioned by a temporary or permanent ban if it is deemed necessary.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Neither Eupedia nor any administrator of the Eupedia Forum can be held responsible for the behaviour of any Team Member of the Eupedia Forum, or any dispute among or between a Team Member and any other member.
Team Members are not employed by Eupedia and have no legal affiliation with Eupedia. Team Members are considered as equal to any other forum member, and are only distinguished by their capacity to help moderating the Eupedia Forum according to their own judgement and availability.
Please note that Team Members are in no position to monitor all posts at the Eupedia Forum, and that the compliance with our Terms of Service as well as our Forum Guidelines is up to each Team Member's judgement, without any liability to the administrators.
Admins make the rules, moderators make sure regular members apply them. Admins have the right to change the rules at any given time, without the consultation of regular members or moderators.
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT
Eupedia reserves the right to organize forum sections in order to best serve the majority of members. Furthermore, we reserve the right to remove unrelated posts as well as posts that violate the Forum Guidelines. Finally, we reserve the right to revoke your membership if you violate these Guidelines.
