    What is a hero?

I think it's hard for some people to differentiate between heroes and people you admire. I admire many people but, like you, wouldn't say i have a hero or someone who i look up to in a way that i'd follow their guidance or beliefs. I have authors that i admire and use there work as inspirtion...

    What is a hero?

To me a hero is: someone who puts the well-being of others before their own. someone who is a positive influence on the life of another or others. someone who survives through adversity and difficulty. someone who became the best they can be. someone who can realise the error of their ways and...

    Racism

Where i live racism has existed for as long as i can remember. A lot of racism stems from the older generations seeing asian families getting benefits and coming into 'our country' and taking 'our housing'...this, unfortunately, passes on to younger generations and the cycle continues. People...

    Marriage

i agree with you on this one Frank. My brother is going through a difficult seperation to an un-married partner and children are involved. Because they aren't married his situation is all the more difficult. However i don't believe legal reasons are the right reasons to get married. Has...

    Marriage

I had a long, quite in depth discussion with a friend today regarding marriage. She was a firm believer in the institution of marriage and what it stands for. She believed that if you are going to spend the rest of your life with someone then you should get married. I disagreed with her. I'm not...

If you could learn any language...

all i know of Basque is the seperatist/terrorist group 'Etta' from the Basque region. But, seeing as the region falls somewhere between france and spain (i believe) i can imagine the influence.

If you could learn any language...

...apart from Japanese, what would you pick and why? I'm a bit stuck because my heart says French (i know a little - tres miniscule) because i find it such a sexy language...especially with women (there's logic there i swear) but my head says Spanish because it's the place i visit most often...

    Money Vs Happiness

If like me your stuck in a dead end job that bores you out of your tiny little skull :20: however, it pays the bills. I was speaking with my girl today (actually i think i was more wallowing in self pity) and she said get a job that makes you happy, don't worry about the cash. She said that...

Do the winners of wars get away with crimes?

an excellent thread...thought provoking. I feel comments have been made so i have little to add. All i'll say is, are there really any victors in war?

    Suspicious foreign faces...

True. However, speaking of descriptions...this may not always be the case, lets face it, anybody (ignoring colour, race etc) could be a terrorist. There is no definitive description of a terrorist. Like with any other crime, you can't judge one man (or woman) from the next.

    Infertility threatening Europe's population

Sometimes it's not always about want. My mother had her first child by the age of 18 and she has been a good mother to all of her children...despite the father doing a runner and leaving her with cild benefit cheques that bounced. My brother also had his first child (via proxy if you like ;) )...

    Suspicious foreign faces...

I feel a great sense of guilt when i am suspicious of others...this has only come about since 7/7. I have yet to ride the tube (not through fear, but through not needing to) but on buses i have 'looked people up and down' but if i'm honest, only people carrying rucksacks and, i'm ashamed to say...

Ethics Notions about Good and Evil

I think for people to be born good or evil, they would to have a good or evil gene. I believe that what makes us good or evil stems from what we are taught and the surroundings we develop in. If, for example, in our upbringing 'evil' things (such as crime, abuse) are a common factor then our...

A Personal Account of the London Attacks (07/07/2005)

What a load of waffle. I'm having trouble replying because i'm not sure what point you were trying to make. As far as mass media is concerned, of course it will be reported...we live in an age free from propaganda (whether that's a good thing or not is an individual belief) and any events of...

    Further Explosions on London Underground

I hope that there won't be a public uprising by the muslim community. However if the shot 'terrorists' prove to be innocent then i'm afraid that may be the outcome. If however they were terrorists, i hope that the police won't be blamed for 'uneccesary violence'. What would people rather have, a...
