Does multilingualism interfere with your thought processes?

It doesn't happen so much when I think in my mother tongue, but if I try to think of anything in Spanish these days it comes out in Japanese, but that's probably more from a lack of practice and motivation.

    Euphemisms

Nowadays, it's even known as "post-traumatic stress reaction," so even the "disorder" part too strongly infers that something might actually be wrong with sending our kids to war.

please read my above post, it contains a link to a pdf of the English translation hosted by National Geographic. They finished restoring it earlier this year.

Religion Have you heard about the Judas' gospel?

you can find it in pdf format here http://www9.nationalgeographic.com/lostgospel/_pdf/GospelofJudas.pdf It was actually discovered about a decade ago in an old bureau or something like that. It was in poor shape but they've been working on restoring it since around 2000, when it was first called...

    United States budget deficit

literally, none. We rescinded the gold standard in the mid 20th century, and now our paper money is worth no more than the value we assign to it. Its real value is completely subjective.

    United States budget deficit

sorry, I should have specified that I was just kidding. Whatever happens to the coalition of the willing when we start invading them! :p

    United States budget deficit

We could always cause a "regime change" in the countries that we owe money to, then erase the debt from the books... That way we could have our war and fund it with their money. The real sad part is, that probably wouldn't seem like such a bad idea to this administration.

    Sustainability Vegetarianism for the Environment

To be fair, bossel did suggest an agrarian solution that would address some of the environmental issues of raising livestock for meat. I'm not sure to what extent it would be a self-sustaining system, but he wasn't given much chance to air out his idea before being dismissed for not agreeing...

I am making a new language based on chinese characters!

as hard as it is to learn Chinese, I suspect it's easier than creating a whole new language and getting 2 billion people to learn it for you. good luck!

Question Intuition: do you follow yours?

It really depends on the situation I suppose; gut instincts can only solve so many problems...

    Sustainability Vegetarianism for the Environment

I'm afraid I'm too tired to address the topic at hand as much as I'd like, but I'll say that I still haven't and will not read your sig so long as it continually bounces like that. It's actually more cause for me to scroll past your posts than anything else. Sorry but it's just been bugging me...

Should Marriage Be Up To The Government To Decide?

tokis: for clarity's sake, could you please put line breaks between your paragraphs? it's very difficult to read in its current form...

Should Marriage Be Up To The Government To Decide?

I would like you to elaborate on your contention that people who think same-sex marriage should be legalized but not incestuous relationships are hypocritical. Are you saying that all consentual adult relationships are equal? I'm afraid I don't understand what you are saying here. Part of the...

Religion Which religion is most accurate/belivible?

Depends on what you define as "accurate." As this word's definition is subjective, what you seem to be asking is "what relgion do you believe in?" what is believable also depends on the person, and how the religion is presented to them. Every religion requires at least a little bit of faith in...

    Animals Meet Your Meat

I'm afraid I have no numbers for you, but I was told this by a professor who has much in his curriculum about the dangers, toxicity, and general unhealthfulness that arises from the way we farm and raise livestock. Over 25 years he has had countless students come to him with the same exultations...

    Animals Meet Your Meat

2 years is quite a deep grave to exhume for a thread, but since it died such a quick death... One thing I've noticed is the lack of effectiveness of the "shock value" on people who have already established their eating habits. Showing them how things are might make them say "oh my god I never...

    Religion Books about Buddhism?

I know some people here are allergic to any book called "Bible," but I was told by a great teacher of mine that The Buddhist Bible by Dwight Goddard is one of the best books on Buddhism if not the best spiritual book he's ever read. You should, however, try to be a bit more specific about what...

    Religion Discussing Religion

I suggest a rule against obnoxious acronyms :) I think a quality discussion doesn't base itself around the specifics of a religion, or even the validity of the claims surrounding its texts. I think I'd enjoy a discussion over the similarities of the different religions instead of why someone...
