Bond Goes Blond ? New Casino Royale !

British actor Daniel Craig has been named as the new 007. Just doesn't seem to have the pazazz to pull it off to me? Maybe enough gagets and action can pull it off?

I am also disappointed by the choice of Daniel Craig. Pierce Brosnan was the best...

Pierce Brosnan was not very good in my opinion. Too suave, too soft. I didn't mind Timothy Dalton actually, he put a human/psychological touch into it, though he was defeated by weak scripts. The new guy is an interesting choice, if you have a look at pictures of him in other roles there are some that suggest he may not be too bad.

    The 21st 007 Screen Adventure,
    An MGM/Columbia Pictures Co-Production
To Be Directed By Martin Campbell
Columbia Pictures Will Release On November 17, 2006

Culver City, CA October 14, 2005 – It was announced today by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that DANIEL CRAIG has been cast in the role of the legendary British secret agent, James Bond, in the highly anticipated 007 adventure thriller CASINO ROYALE.

CASINO ROYALE reunites Wilson and Broccoli with Martin Campbell, who directed the 1995 Bond blockbuster GOLDENEYE. His most recent film, "The Legend of Zorro," will be released on October 28, 2005.

CASINO ROYALE will be the 21st James Bond film produced by the franchise holders, EON Productions. The MGM/Columbia Pictures production begins shooting in January and is due for release worldwide on November 17, 2006. It will be filmed in the Czech Republic, the Bahamas, Italy and the UK.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote the screenplay based on famed author Ian Fleming's first novel. The script is currently being polished by Academy Award®-nominated writer, Paul Haggis ("Million Dollar Baby").

Born in 1968, DANIEL CRAIG was raised on the Wirral nr. Liverpool. He moved to London to join the National Youth Theatre at the age 17 and continued his training at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. CRAIG has since become regarded as one of Britain's finest actors securing a variety of roles in television, theatre and film.

He is currently filming a thriller alongside Nicole Kidman, "The Visiting", and has two films in post-production; Steven Spielberg's "Munich" and Douglas McGrath's "Every Word Is True", co-starring Sandra Bullock and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Recent film credits include Sam Mendes' "The Road to Perdition", "The Mother", "Sylvia", and last year he received much critical acclaim for Matthew Vaughn's "Layer Cake" as well as Roger Michell's "Enduring Love".

Wilson and Broccoli said "It has been a long time ambition for us to film the first book in the series, CASINO ROYALE, which defined the complex character of James Bond. We are thrilled DANIEL CRAIG will play the character of 007. Daniel is a superb actor who has all the qualities needed to bring a contemporary edge to the role. CASINO ROYALE will have all the action, suspense and espionage that our audiences have come to expect from us but nevertheless takes the franchise in a new and exciting direction."

"James Bond is a character without peer in motion picture history," said Pascal, Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group. "He is a household name recognized in virtually every corner of the globe and because of this renown, the casting of the new 007 takes on a special importance. We believe that in DANIEL CRAIG we have found the ideal 21st century Bond and we couldn't be more privileged to be working with Barbara and Michael, who are tireless champions and guardians of the James Bond legacy."

Director Martin Campbell said, "The thing about James Bond is that each actor who has filled the role has brought his own style and imprint. With Daniel as our new Bond, I am thrilled to be returning to shepherd the new 007 in the new Bond adventure."

Dan Taylor, President of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., said: "All of us here at MGM are delighted that Daniel Craig, an actor of such high-calibre, has been chosen to be the next Bond. We are also very excited to be working closely with Barbara and Michael again and with Columbia Pictures on CASINO ROYALE, which we predict to be the biggest, best Bond ever."

as long as they just really messed up the pics why not hugh grant... i know he looks soft and all but he could have pulled off a tough role... besides bond is more a suave agent and not really really violent like in other action movies.

Jude Law sounds like a good choice! I only enjoyed Bond when it was Sean Connery and Roger Moore. I haven't really liked any of the others.

I'm not too keen on the blonde bond idea, but I'll withhold judgment until I see the movie.

The original Casino Royale has got to be the worst movie ever made. I'm a huge Peter Sellers fan, but it just stank. Hopefully they are just using the name for this new one and will completely ignore the actual screenplay used in the original.

The actor is the least of their problems. Their main concern is to develop a decent script and stop selling out to the likes of BMW, Ericsson and anyone else who fancies contributing to a feature length advert for their products. The product placement in recent outings has been beyond a joke and the last movie was frankly an utter disgrace to the series. If they don't improve things considerably, Bond won't last beyond a couple more editions.

My first thought was that the guy was already a bit old! In a couple of more years, he won't have hair either. Then today I read that they had actually considered Ben Affleck! I almost hurled. Ok, I'll take the old blonde with thinning hair over Ben Affleck any day.

Hugh Jackson would have been a good choice, too.

I think it's a poor choice. He won't be awful, but he's not really ideal. I would have picked Clive Owen. I don't really like the recent Bond films anyway so I'm not that bothered. Pierce Brosnan was good, but with the exception of Goldeneye, the films were atrocious.

Look at your avatar, you're fully fledged Bond girl, hehe.
Brosnan is my favourite Bond too. The best of Brosnan movie could be Thomas Crown Affair, I think it's a masterpiece of film making. The recent movie Matador was funny and wicket, love that too.

Throughout the entire film, it didn’t seem at all like Casino Royale was Daniel Craig’s first Bond film, and that is because he looks so confident in the role. The one-liners, Craig delivers perfectly—being on par with Sean Connery. Not like Moore’s eyebrow raising, or Brosnan’s later tongue-in-cheek deliveries, at which I sometimes cringe. The audience loved them all and burst into chuckles and laughter throughout—one constant of the original formula that remains in this new reboot.

Well - after two James Bond movies I totally have to declare that Daniel Craig is by far the best acting, most deep and most beautiful James Bond character of all times. His character is simply deep and dramatic and I really love the new found shape of earnestness and gravity.
