It is time to review a bit the distribution of R1b subclades around Europe. There are now enough people who tested for subclades discovered in the last 3 years, like S28/U152, S116/P312 and L21 to have a better idea of the overall distribution. As no proper scientific study has looked at R1b1b2 subclades in Europe yet, I have used FTDNA projects. I have only counted members who were SNP tested for deep clades (in green). I excluded P25 results and those listed as colonials. I have rounded up the percentages as it's just approximations.

Scandinavia

-- U106 : 18 (40%)
-- P312 : 15 (32%)
--- L21 : 13 (28%)
--- U152 : 0 (0%)
--- SRY2627 : 0 (0%)

-- P312 : 15 (16%)
--- L21 : 68 (72%)

--- L21 : 395 (66%)

Note that I have included R1b1b2* and R1b1b2a tested for SNP for Italy and Spain in order to have enough samples, so the percentages should be adapted in consequence.

Very interesting... Thanks! Below are my findings from 23&me (quoted from ¨roman or gaulish?¨ thread...):

In recent times my ancestors came from Germany; my subclade is R1b1b2a1a2d* (23&me, I think its nomenclature is outdated) seems to represent, in my case, Swiss Anabaptist ancestry (surname Yutzy... interestingly, my direct line was with an Anabaptist group that migrated into Poland and later my direct line migrated back to Central Germany... maybe they left a little R1b in Poland too? :)

I used to think I knew what words like ¨Celtic,¨¨German,¨ and¨Roman¨ meant, and now I am starting to realize how much more complex it is! The wealth of knowledge that people here, of very different persuasions, seem to have impresses me. I appreciate the conversation and just wanted to say thanks to all that contributed.

Being U152, I thought I post up what my 23&me test revealed (this is on the ¨speculative¨ setting):
-only a very small fraction (.2%) of Italian DNA (one reason I personally favor ¨Gaulish¨ origin)
-a slightly larger fraction of Iberian and Scandinavian (~2% each)
-mostly German/French, (it does not differentiate)
-the genetic legacy (~15%) of a few Scots/Scotch Irish ancestors...
-a smidgen (.2%) of North African... Moorish invasion?)...

So, I am inclined to lean towards a Celtic/Gaulish origin for U152, in or around Switzerland/Austria... but I am new to this and have very little clue what I am talking about! I suppose it could have moved up into the Alps from northern Italy instead? I´m relying on you guys to find that out for me, haha. :)

strange how 2 weeks ago I placed a link on Rollo Ydna being P312............and you said words infavour of it, yet you show 32% of P312 in scandinavia

^maybe my fault for reviving a thread from 2010!

Thanks LeBrok! I have lost hours perusing the site, haha.

This is only a gain. :)

On this site they have labeled U152 "Italo-celtic". I know almost nothing about haplogroups but I believe the Venetians brought it to Crete. It isn't common overall but it's considerably higher than in other parts of Greece. According to Eupedia's maps it's also higher in Croatia than the Croatia's eastern & southern neighbours but I don't know if that's explainable otherwise.

At FTDNA I have tested positive for SNP R1b-A9063. Can anybody please give me some insights into A9063's place and time of origin.
