    The Union State

What are your thoughts about the future of the Russian - Belarus Union State? Will it strengthen in nature? Will other CIS countries join? Or is it just the brain child of Lukashenko and Putin? Will Transnistria, South Ossetia and Abkhazia be part of that, or will they maybe just become future oblasts?

Belarus has always been closer to Russia than the rest of Europe. In many ways it is more purely Russian than many remote parts of Russia. I don't know why they even split from Russia in 1990.

Ohh yeah Russian - Belarus Union State strong in the root, especially today when Belorussian command economy have a total collapse, after privatization by money of Russian companies the Belorussia will become informal oblast of Russia probably. There are also no problems of civilization like in case of western part of Ukraine, 99% of Belorussians are pro-Russia. But sometimes they look too conservative, still live under mini version of Soviet regime lol

South Ossetia and Abkhazia are independent states and I hope it will stay so.
Transnistria is independent from Moldova until it want to be so, anyway nobody wants to include it in Russia or Ukraine.

Actually according to a poll conducted in 2009 44.1% of the Belarussian people would vote YES in a vote to join the European Union.

Nope, because there's always someone who don't know/are unsure. In this poll the majority of those who had an opinion would vote for it, and Belarus is becoming increasingly pro-EU.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belarus...European_Union

Link says that just 1 year earlier before that poll only 26.7% supported the same thing, very strange poll if you ask me. Hardly possible that percentage ratio can increase from 26% to 44% just for 1 year.

Difference between Belorussia and Russia is lower than between Norway & Sweden: the same language, history, roots, family communications, economies integrated a lot, already exist united customs area and one currency in 5-7 years.
