I do not remember the title now, but it is a French film in black and white, starring a very sexy French actress, blonde, since I saw the movie always drain the hose poured gasoline into my car, it's intrigue, the couple lovers plan to fake the death of the man and he rises from a bathtub with white eyes, I was a kid when I saw tv but hit me, if anyone knows the title ... He became a U.S. version of that movie, many years later, that to be a version was great too.

I haven't seen THAT many French movies so far, but here are my top five (in that order):

    1. La Huitième Jour
    2. Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis
    3. Baise-Moi!
    4. Dernier étage gauche gauche (just seen it at the "Berlinale 2011")
    5. Taxi

"La Haine" wasn't that bad, too. But it doesn't make it into my top five.

To be honest I love old french movies - they are so picturesque and beautiful.

L'Homme du large (directed by Marcel L'Herbier)

La Passante du Sans Souci (directed by Jacques Rouffi and staring immaculate Romy Schneider!)

You're probably thinking of "Les diaboliques", one of Clouzot's masterpieces? I would add a few others of his to my all time list: "Le Salaire de la peur", "Quai des Orfevres", and "Le Corbeau". And I have to have a Brigitte film in there somewhere. Perhaps "Le mepris" or the excellent and rather neglected "La lumiere d'en face". (I see I need a list of 100 favourites... (:=))

Those of Louis de Funes. They are rather enjoyable.

Lots of the dialogues are lost in translation, but "Les Visiteurs" is one of the best comedies ever made in France.
Other top French movies I like:
    Le Grand Bleu
Léon ( all three with Jean Reno, I realise)
    Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources
    Amélie

One special mention for "La Traversée de Paris", a one of a kind war movie...

It's a Belgian film, not a French one.

I agree that these are all very good films, surely among my favourites too. I also liked Le dîner de cons.
