Eastern European cities have fastest Internet connections

According to BusinessInsider, 14 out of the 20 cities with the fastest Internet connections in Europe are in Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). The other five cities were Helsinki (which could also be considered Eastern European, although it is usually classified as Northern European), Stockholm, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Den Haag and Paris. Hamburg was the first non-Eastern city, ranking only 8th for download speed. The upload speed was not mentioned, but the German average (2 Mbps) is very far below those found in the former Communist bloc (e.g. 28.5 Mbps in Vilnius).

The truth is that Eastern European countries 'discovered' the internet later than their Western counterparts. As a result they built their networks with the latest technology available, hence the faster speeds.

    Cheers

Maybe you right, but I myself remember that used old dial up modem around 10 years ago with just 56 kilobits, later moved to 2 megabyte ADSL modem, after to 10 megabyte fiber-optic internet and now using 30 megabyte unlimited tariff for 720 RUB per month.
