Post Proxy IP banned from now on

If any of you have been using a proxy IP address to post on the forum, it is now prohibited to prevent people from creating multiple accounts or banned members to join under a new name.

There are legitimate uses of proxies. What if someone for whatever reason wants to not let know from which country he is posting?

What would be a right reason to hide origin of your country when posting on Eupedia?

I think both IP's at home and where I work are not proxy. Anyways, nothing to hide here, and all against desperate t.r.o.l.l.s. are good news.

Your IPs are not proxy, but they are dynamic. Static IPs are preferred for moderation purposes, but it's not feasible to keep people from having dynamic IPs, so don't worry. Proxy IPs are like what Canek was doing to hide where he was from and create another account.

Well we live and learn, this thread has urged me to look up exactly what a proxy IP is, but I'm darned if I know what dynamic and static IPs are, Sparkey! The internet hadn't been invented when I went to school, nor computers as we know them. lol

Static means that your Internet service provider (ISP) always attributes your connection the same IP address.
Dynamic means your ISP changes your IP address everyday or every time you restart your modem.

A proxy IP is one that is not linked to your ISP, but is attributed by a third party (e.g. specialised website) so as to hide your actual IP address (and therefore your location in the world since IP address have a physical location linked to the ISP).

You won't have a proxy IP unless you actively sought to have one to intentionally hide your location.

Now we will never know what @Canek was about... or really from where he was posting.

Precisely few days ago I was decided to engage him, finally. To see if he was really from Chile, etc.

If he was really Latin American, I was to ask him to post in a more mature manner...

But then, finally we didn't know much of him. Could have been anyone, from anywhere.

He looked very Latin American to me in the way he behaved. If he said he was Chilean there is not reason to doubt. Why would anybody want to say he is Chilean when he isn't ?

This is good and all I guess, but I don't see why should the admins take such precautions - especially, provided I have the correct information, since there has been only one t.r.oll (give and take some unnoticed ones). I am all for protecting privacy on the web, and I do agree that dynamic IP are at all times the best choice, however I cannot help but wonder what about those people who wish to hold their location private while their ISP does not have a dynamic IP policy?
