As this is my first post I would like to say that I think this site is fantastic and that Maciamo has done an amazing job.
The maps on this site are all shaded based on % frequency which gives an interesting representation of where which y dna haplogroups are most homogenous/heterogenous but doesn't give a very accurate depiction of a haplogroups actual geographic distribution because it assumes all european countries have an equal population. For example the R1b map suggests r1b is most common in Ireland however there is much more r1b in Germany than Ireland.
(r1b Ireland = 81% * population of 4.5 million) * .495(for male to female ratio) vs (r1b Germany = 45% * poulation of 82 million) * .485 (for male to female ratio)
1.81 million vs 17.9 million
I think it would be interesting to see maps where maybe they grow a shade for each 1 million estimated bearers of a y dna haplogroup. Especially if the map was done on a region/provincal basis rather than country. It's a lot to ask though :embarassed:
