Tauresium is the birthplace of both Byzantine Emperor Justinian I (483) and King Theodahad of the Ostrogoths (480)
Tauresium (Macedonian: Тауресиум, Ancient greek Tavresion, Ταυρήσιον) or known as Gradište (Градиште) is an archaeological site in Macedonia, located approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) southeast of the capital Skopje.

Belisarius Justinian's most faithful general and mastermind of the Gothic wars was born on the site of present-day Sapareva Banya in south-west Bulgaria, in the borders of Thrace and Illyria.

The above leaders will cross swords in the Gothic wars of course on opposite sides.

In parallel with the Gothic wars the Sclavene problem appear in the lower Danube, first raid happened in 545.
Their first raid as well coincided with Justinian alliances with the "Antes" another group whom scholars identify as Slavs (East Slavs)

Procopius one of the first authors to write about Sclavenes suggests that some raids of the Sclavenes might not be an accident but deliberate attempt by Totila to keep the Roman armies occupied in the Balkans.

In the summer of the year 550,as Roman troops were gathering in Serdica(present Sofia,Bulgaria) under the command of Germanus to be sent to Italy against Totila,a great throng of Sclavenes "such never before was known" crossed the Danube and easily come close to Naissus(present Niš,Serbia) According to Procopius the Sclavenes were bent on capturing Thessalonika and the surrounding cities. The thread must have been truly serious for Justinian ordered Germanus to defer his expedition in Italy and to defend Thessalonika and the surrounding cities. The measure proved efficient cause the Sclavenes gave up their plan to capture Thessalonika.Instead they crossed the mountain ranges and went in Dalmatia at that time land disputed between Ostrogoths and Romans,Germanus will not follow them.

What was the connection between the Goths and the Sclavenes?
