Hi all!
I know at least a portion of my heritage (Southern France) because my grandmother is from there, but I've been spending time recently trying to figure out where the other parts of my family are from, especially given that I've never met anyone from my dad's side of the family.
Thus, I have been analyzing raw DNA data with GEDMatch's admixture tool, and I'm encountering some really surprising results---and I'm not sure what to make of them. Namely, the Oracle tool is showing European countries, as well as Caucasian countries,---which has made me really confused and perplexed, to say the least.
My father's side just lives in Georgia (the U.S. state), apparently, which isn't exactly an ethnic state, if I'm not mistaken. Again, I'm quite perplexed, and I'm not sure if I should just discount some of these results, or maybe consider that they're actually pointing me in the right direction, as far as my heritage goes. Many of the lowest-distance Oracle results are listed below:
MDLP K16:
1 Basque + Icelandic + Lithuanian + Tabasaran 2.116144
MDLP K23B:
1 Crimean_Tatar_Mountain + Icelandic + Icelandic + Orcadian 1.045359
MDLP World-22:
1 Norwegian_V + Romania + Romania + Swedish 2.214302
Eurogenes EUTest K15:
1 French + Orcadian + Orcadian + Southwest_English 4.655168
Eurogenes K13:
1 French + Irish + Irish + West_Scottish 4.701621
Dodecad K12:
1 Argyll + Argyll + Norwegian + O_Italian 2.216160
Dodecad World9:
1 British_Isles + CEU30 + Romanians + Ukranians 1.517213
HarappaWorld:
1 orcadian + orcadian + romanian-a + utahn-white 1.85883
PuntDNAL K12 Modern:
1 Basque_Spaniard + French + Swedish + Tajik_Pomiri 2.587952
PuntDNAL K15:
1 Norwegian + Scottish + French + Bosnian 2.162858
Gedrosia - Eurasia K14:
1 Corded_Ware_BA2 + French + HungaryGamba_IA + Spanish 2.422890
Gedrosia - K9 ASI:
1 Adygei + French + Icelandic + RISE_baBb 0.805252
Gedrosia - Eurasia K10 CHG:
1 Estonian + Estonian + French_South + Kurd_C 1.24055
Gedrosia - Eurasia K11 CHG-NAF:
1 Albanian + Croatian + Czech + RISE386_Sintashta 3.274932
Obviously, that's a huge mess, but it probably won't be once I account for biases that certain models must have. Additionally, French does show up a lot, and so does northern Spain, which would make sense. However, many of the other results show a gigantic mess of NW European countries, Balkan countries, and some Caucasian populations. I'd really like to know, generally, where I could consider my heritage to be from. I am not only curious because I don't know my father or his family, but also because I get the question quite a bit from friends and such, especially whenever summer rolls around, and I get darker. One friend is from Romania and insists that I could pass as full-Romanian. Others volunteer that I look French, and yet another told me I look like I'm from Armenia. Anyway, based on the numbers shown above, can someone give me an idea of how I could summarize my roots?
Thanks!!!!
Kyla
