My Heritage?

Hi all!

I know at least a portion of my heritage (Southern France) because my grandmother is from there, but I've been spending time recently trying to figure out where the other parts of my family are from, especially given that I've never met anyone from my dad's side of the family.

Thus, I have been analyzing raw DNA data with GEDMatch's admixture tool, and I'm encountering some really surprising results---and I'm not sure what to make of them. Namely, the Oracle tool is showing European countries, as well as Caucasian countries,---which has made me really confused and perplexed, to say the least.

My father's side just lives in Georgia (the U.S. state), apparently, which isn't exactly an ethnic state, if I'm not mistaken. Again, I'm quite perplexed, and I'm not sure if I should just discount some of these results, or maybe consider that they're actually pointing me in the right direction, as far as my heritage goes. Many of the lowest-distance Oracle results are listed below:

MDLP K16:
1 Basque + Icelandic + Lithuanian + Tabasaran 2.116144
MDLP K23B:
1 Crimean_Tatar_Mountain + Icelandic + Icelandic + Orcadian 1.045359
MDLP World-22:

Eurogenes EUTest K15:

Eurogenes K13:
1 French + Irish + Irish + West_Scottish 4.701621
Dodecad K12:
1 Argyll + Argyll + Norwegian + O_Italian 2.216160
Dodecad World9:
1 British_Isles + CEU30 + Romanians + Ukranians 1.517213
HarappaWorld:
1 orcadian + orcadian + romanian-a + utahn-white 1.85883
PuntDNAL K12 Modern:
1 Basque_Spaniard + French + Swedish + Tajik_Pomiri 2.587952
PuntDNAL K15:
1 Norwegian + Scottish + French + Bosnian 2.162858
Gedrosia - Eurasia K14:
1 Corded_Ware_BA2 + French + HungaryGamba_IA + Spanish 2.422890
Gedrosia - K9 ASI:
1 Adygei + French + Icelandic + RISE_baBb 0.805252
Gedrosia - Eurasia K10 CHG:
1 Estonian + Estonian + French_South + Kurd_C 1.24055
Gedrosia - Eurasia K11 CHG-NAF:
1 Albanian + Croatian + Czech + RISE386_Sintashta 3.274932

Obviously, that's a huge mess, but it probably won't be once I account for biases that certain models must have. Additionally, French does show up a lot, and so does northern Spain, which would make sense. However, many of the other results show a gigantic mess of NW European countries, Balkan countries, and some Caucasian populations. I'd really like to know, generally, where I could consider my heritage to be from. I am not only curious because I don't know my father or his family, but also because I get the question quite a bit from friends and such, especially whenever summer rolls around, and I get darker. One friend is from Romania and insists that I could pass as full-Romanian. Others volunteer that I look French, and yet another told me I look like I'm from Armenia. Anyway, based on the numbers shown above, can someone give me an idea of how I could summarize my roots?

Thanks!!!!
Kyla

Your results constantly show some eastern Europe and North Caucasian populations, which probably indicates that you have ancestors in that region. However the lowest distance figures alone are not enough to determine the origins of that DNA.

With which company did you test? What did your autosomal report show? Could you share your admixture percentages for MDLP K23b and HarappaWorld?

I've got my doubts that calculators on Gedmatch can accurately pinpoint someone's ancestry correctly. I know my ancestry quite well as it is majorly Gaelic Irish but this is what I get on the same calculators.

The Gedrosia calcs are really bizarre and not in any way accurate as far as recent ancestry. They use a very small amount of snps. The most accurate are Eurogenes and the MDLP K23B.

Looking at Eurogenes you look to be French and British Isles. The other calcs are just too bizarre to try and work out recent ancestry.

The newer calcs pull British Islanders more east. I have no Eastern European ancestry but on the on PuntDNAL and Gedrosia get an eastern pull which is not accurate.

You have some Eastern European, but also predominantly North West European. Id place you in England or Northern France all the way to East Germany.

I used AncestryDNA, which shows 67% Great Britain, with the rest being the Caucasus, I think. I would need to figure out my username and password for that site to view the exact percentages. I really didn't find it to be useful because how could France not have shown up whatsoever in my AncestryDNA results?? My grandmother is 100% French.

As for the results you inquired, here you go:

So, what are your thoughts? Does this mean that I'm basically 75% British and 25% Tartar? Also, if I'm part-Tartar, does that mean that I'm essentially 25% Turkish, or are the two populations too different to get away with saying that. Most people don't know what Tartar is, so I wish there were a way to simplify it for people.

Thanks,
Kyla

What are your thoughts on MDLPK 23B? Also,my bizarre Gedrosia results nowmake sense. I had doubts abou tbeing part-Tajik haha.

That's not what I asked. I wanted to see the admixtures, not the Mixed Mode Population Sharing.

Okay, but you could be a little more tactful. I am a curious layperson, so bear with me---even if my phone did make my last post somewhat difficult to make out.
