They've been living in Europe for 1000+ years. I imagine a mostly male crowd from modern day Judea whom migrated to the Byzantium and Rome. They've mixed with locals and quite a lot of them became Hellenistic Jews or even accepted natives who converted to Judaism. Later this hybrid Levantine-Byzantine/Romance group moved to Germany, Poland, Spain and kept their patriarchal identity which originated from the ancient Canaanites.
The main ethnogenesis of Ashkenazi or Sephardi Jews had happened in Europe and 40-70% of their complete autosomal based genetic make up roads back to Rome and the Byzantium.
