Europe is, relatively, a homogeneous continent compared to the rest of the world. Linguistic information from the past can be found in Murdock's work, Ethnographic Atlas. Yet, the Ethnographic Atlas considered mostly regions that did not have written history, and thus not many information can be found for Europe. I was wondering if one has come close to finding historical data information regarding different languages spoken within European countries.
