Hello,

I do know that Eupedia is European forum. However, I would like to ask my question, since I am facing difficulty finding the answers.

What is the origin of R2a/R-M124 haplogroup?

So far, I found 2 answers. Some says, it originated from Southern India, while another answer is Western Asia. I have heard another theory that R2a originated from Central Asia.

Which one should I believe in?

R2 and R2a have been identified in early herders in the Zagros Mountains some 10 ka

there R2a split ca 10.6 ka

they spread further east and south

Does this mean my ancestors came from present Iran? If so, could I find out, who they were, I mean any famous name?

around 10 ka they probably were in the Zagros Mts, western Iran
that was long before writing existed - no names recorded

where is the mtDNA R2 ?

Hey, thanks for sharing. It was really confusing to see mtDNA R2 haplogroup on Wiki. Now, my mystery would be solved if I find out, who my ancestors were. Moreover, according to Harappa World DNA calculator, I have 41% Baloch ancestry.

Ok, thanks, but it is not official.
Davidski once said, that it is possible, but is a guess.
Anyway, their au-relaton to Yamna and Afanasievo can suggest also IE origin.
So, still it is not known what R2 is indeed.
I would say 60:40 that the R2 can be IE also.

where is the mtDNA R2 ?

For example in Tepe Abdul Hosein. http://www.ancestraljourneys.org/wasianneolithicdna.shtml

R2 originated in Central Asian according to FTDNA map; however, I am not sure about R2a. A Y DNA haplogroup map on Wiki shows Southern India for R2a.

R2 originated in Central Asian according to FTDNA map

There is almost NONE ancient R2, so they cannot know where it did originated.
R* was found in Irkuck, but could be a splinter of East European population.
In both cases R2 would not originated in Central Asia.
