Introduction
La Madeleine is a church designed as a temple to the glory of Napoleon's Grande Armée. Its construction actually started in 1763 and was only complete in 1842.
Inspired by the Maison Carrée at Nîmes, it is a perfect example of the Neoclassical architecture. The building is 108m long, 43m wide and is lined with 52 Corinthian columns, each 20m high.
