This thread is about genetics. It is common knowledge that women have XX chromosomes, while men have a XY pair. So, in other words, men are half women. What kind of person do you think would be created if scientists managed to create a liveable human being with YY chromosomes.

These YY males are apparently known as "supermales". Needless to say that I am very curious to know what they would look like. The problem with reproduction is that they can only father XY people, i.e. "regular males", which would lead to the extinction of the species.

I searched the Net and found that there has already been YY genetically modified animals (fish, in the article I found). Unfortunately, as non-specialists can hardly differentiate between a male and female fish of that species, it doesn't give me much clues on whether YY males look exactly the same as XY males or not.

Let's add that some people have an additional chromosome, so that they can be XYY, XXY or XXX. It is a form of trisomy, but with no physical or medical abnormality. According to Wikipedia, XXX and XYY people are a bit taller than average and more likely to have learning difficulties especially language-wise.

XXY males are almost always sterile, though, and may suffer from gender identity problems, as well as higher risk for several sorts of diseases, like cancer arthritis or osteoporosis.

About 1 in 1,000 boys are born with a 47,XYY karyotype. The incidence is the same for the Triple X syndrome.

There are also men with 48 chromosomes (two additional ones) who have two pairs of X and Y, giving XXYY. The incidence is only of 1 out of 17,000 boys.
