Let's test our knowledge of European geography, culture, history and trivia in general.

The principle of this thread is to ask as many questions as you like, and others have to find as many answers as possible.

Let's start !

1) In which country were opened Europe's first casino, Europe's first spa and Europe's first shopping arcades ?

2) Britain's tallest cathedral is 123m tall. Where is it ?

3) Which country can boast to have invented the telescope, the microscope and the mercury thermometer ?

4) What are Europe's 5 largest cities (with suburbs) in the right order. Give the approximate population if possible.

5) Name Europe's (and the world's) 3 largest cathedrals/basilicas in the right order.

6) Of these universities, which is the newest : Salamanca, Paris' Sorbonne, Oxford, Bologna ? Name the foundation dates for each if you can.

7) What do the hot air balloon, the parachute, the submarine and photography have in common ?

8) Where is Europe's largest court of justice (the building) ?

9) Which three countries can all claim to have printed the world's first newspaper in 1605 ?

10) How many countries in the European Union (25 countries) have more than 15 million inhabitants ? Name them.

Rome
I was thinking about modern casinos, spas and shopping arcades, that still operate nowadays.
4) What are Europe's 5 largest cities (with suburbs) in the right order. Give the approximate population if possible.
London 7.4m
Berlin 3.3m
Madrid 3.1m
Rome 2.5m

I wanted the population with suburbs. It is correct for Berlin, Mardid and Rome, but the Greater London has a population of 12m and the Greater Paris has 10m.
7) What do the hot air balloon, the parachute, the submarine and photography have in common ?
France?
Yes, they are all French inventions.
10) How many countries in the European Union (25 countries) have more than 15 million inhabitants ? Name them.

You've got all but one (the Netherlands), and 3 that have a much smaller population than 15m : Ireland (4m), Austria (8m) and Hungary (10m).
