The European Court for Human Rights has condemned the Belgian state to pay 6,000 euro to Michel Lelièvre, a pedophile and child murderer convicted for 25 years in prison in the infamous Dutroux affair.
The reason is that the criminal was kept an "unreasonable amount of time" in custody. The man was indeed kept for nearly 8 years before being finally indicted and imprisoned.
It is ironic though that one of the worst type of criminals should be granted money on grounds of Human Rights infringement...
