The British are more like the north Americans than the Europeans in the way they look upon buildings as disposable wasting assets due for redevelopment once they become a bit out-dated. This difference was well evidenced by the differing manner in which the British rebuilt their war-damaged cities after the 2nd World War. Whereas Warsaw and Munich and countless other European towns were painstakingly recreated in the style and appearance of their previous form, the British took the opportunity to carry out comprehensive redevelopment. :)

You should go to Brussels and have a look at the real estate development. Entire quarters of early or mid 20th-century buildings are constantly destroyed to make space for new towers and modern apartment buildings. Only real historical buildings (let's say over 100 years old) are preserved.

Berlin is another great example of "looking upon buildings as disposable wasting assets due for redevelopment".

FYI, Britain also reconstructed a lot of historical buildings after WWII. All Europe did - but that's only for the sumptuous edifices, market squares, cathedrals, parliaments or other exceptional buildings. The biggest part of cities, in Britain or elsewhere, is not historical, and is therefore "disposable".
