The Brabant DNA Project is expanding to all Belgium + French Flanders and Luxembourg. This is an initiative of the Flemish Genealogy Association subsidised by the Flemish Ministry of Culture.

The first phase was to test 500 paternal lineages from the provinces of Antwerp, Flemish Brabant, Brussels and Walloon Brabant. It is almost complete (13 participants still needed from Walloon Brabant).

The second phase will be to test in average 100 Y-DNA lineages from each of the other Belgian provinces as well as French Flanders and Luxembourg, for a total of 1,250 haplotypes. The recruitment for the provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders is almost complete. The project is now looking for participants with patrilineal ancestors originating in all the other provinces.

The Y-chromosome test are done by the University of Leuven. It includes a 37-STR and deep clade SNP test. Thanks to the subsidies the price for the test is unbeatable compared to regular commercial companies.

Hii, Maciamo
I suppose the results are waited yet for the roman part of Belgium and Luxemburg?

In far western France R1b L21 is 10-15% and so is R1b S28 so that adds up to 20-30%. But overall their Italo Celtic R1b S116 is about 60-75%. There is obviously alot from diff subclades. Maybe R1b Df27 is dominate in western France and popular in most of France not just Iberia. And when u add up R1b S28 and R1b L21 in the rest of France it is about combined 20-35% even though Italo Celtic R1b S116 is 40-50%. So do u think R1b Df27 is major in most of France. It maybe it should be called far western or Atlantic branch.

So when Celts arrived in Iberia in the bronze or Iron age they would have been almost only R1b Df27 because of what R1b S116 subclades are in Iberia today. So that could mean Celts arrived in Iberia before expansion of Hallstatt Celtic culture which originally would have been mainly R1b S28 and before the expansion of maybe its father Urnfield culture which would mean Celts arrived in Iberia in the bronze age not first with Hallstatt Iron age culture 2,700ybp. Maybe before Urnfield and Hallstatt expansions in France there only R1b S116 subclades where R1b Df27 and R1b L21.
