Dear users,

like results from the history and historic documents my family is a branch of the Grimaldi of Genoa (and from these principles down the Grimaldi of Monaco. But, unfortunately, the main male line became extinct in the eighteenth century and the current principles derive from women (their real surname is Goyon de Polignac Matignon Grimaldi).

I'm fulfilling a comparative study between the various branches of existing Grimaldi descended from Genoa to study the DNA of our original founders (XII century) and possible mutations in different classes!
And others family like our surname.

There are several traditions about the origins of the family.
According to another theory derives from noble origin Lombard (germanic origin).
According to one of them our family derives from Crespin, a family of Norman origin.

Our genetic results show that my family have the Haplogroup I1d1
with this markers:

And in Italy my family have a haplogroup very rare.

I just simply interested in understanding the possible origin (by hypothesis) of my haplogroup and sublade I1d1 (and the era in which he lived the MRCA).

The name "Grimwald" has Germanic origins, and in fact also the ancestors of the Norse were Germanic.

The root of the term "Grim / Grimria and Vald / Wald 'then is present in Old High German and in Old Norse, and then presumably an Indo-Germanic origin of terms. For example, there was also among the Franks name Grimaldo.

Likewise, the current spread of the haplogroup in a given geographical area does not indicate that that is certainly the origin of a clade.

So far what is clear is that the progenitor of I1d1 lived between Jutland and northern Germany in an era in which probably lived in the same area Quelala, Germanic tribes. Note that historically the Lombards (not wanting to impose the thesis, but only to discuss) is said to originate in southern Sweden.

I have pleasure to have your help and his opinions about our project.

What's the original people or the prehistoric tribes of our ancestors?
When our ancestors come to Italy?

Thanks again.

By estimate,

Giovanni Grimaldi

Hi Giovanni. How do you do? I am Luigi Grimaldi. My parents were Italian immigrants from Roccasecca Frosinone. I would like to discover my Haplo group as well. How might one go about this? Thanking you in advance and Happy New Year.

You guys related to the Grimaldi Family of postage-stamp billionaires' playland of Monaco?

Oops, sorry I didn't notice the first poster's listing of the Grimaldi family in Monaco.
