It's interesting to see the contrast between broadleaf and coniferous regions.
 
I was surprised with the forest map of the brittish isles. I thought they had more forest surface.

England itself is a very green country, but mostly in grassland and pastures, not forests. Same for Ireland. Forests are more typical of hilly Wales. Scotland looks greener on the map that it really is. Scottish forests are not very dense.
 
Interesting pictures. Hopefully the proportion of total forest will not decrease in the future because a precious part of the environment will be lost forever if it does happen.

Scandinavia is clearly the most heavily forested region of Europe.
 
Interestingly central and northern European forests exist only in interglacial periods, which is now, and lasts for 10 thousand years. After that ice age comes and forests are gone for 100 thousand years, almost forever. Call mother nature for this one...
