Heraldry is the study and creation of arms to represent an individual, a location, etc. It was particularly popular in the Middle Ages, when it began as a way to distinguish individuals who bore arms. Later, inheritance of arms and common symbols among families became common. There were inevitably significant regional differences regarding the style, blazon jargon, and regulation of arms.
Is heraldry still important to you, or to your region? If so, what sorts of symbols do you identify with, and from where do they originate?
