There is a genetic test PCR (polymerase Chain Reaction) that is used in DNA matching and testing in forensics, family relationship etc.

according to Genome gov PCR Fact sheet (google search)

"The entire cycling process of PCR is automated and can be completed in just A FEW HOURS It is directed by a machine called a thermocycler, which is programed to alter the temperature of the reaction every few minutes to show DNA denurturing and synthisis." In other words "a match between DNA samples can be made if it is there in a few hours.

It has been reported (search google Osama Bin Laden DNA) that a sample of one of his sister's DNA (died in the USA) had been collected for (possible future) match purposes.

However, in light of the fact that Osama BL had over 50 siblings and was not in good favor with most of them, there could be other samples that were used to compare with.

It is reported that one of Osamas son's was also killed and no doubt his DNA matched his fathers when it was tested (how else would they have known that he was Osama son?

Since this is a genetic topic, one can review many posting on especially Y-dna to see that it is passed from father to son.

The USA is at the "forefront" of gentic science and testing.
