Y-DNA haplogroup
FGC5494
Can a father be in one haplogroup (SNP) and his son in another? If yes, then what causes or allows this to happen?

Another question ..... why and how do alleles change between father to son?

Thanks,
Brad (The-Kings-Son.com)

others can answer you more precisely I supposed
Yes father & son can have different SNP, depending pn what we understand by "SNP": it is a mutation co,nsidered as unique and irreversible on a certain part of the genome - So, the father has yet several SNPs mutations on his chromosomes

Yes father & son can have different SNPs, depending on what we understand by "SNP": it is a mutation considered as unique and not reversible on a certain part of the genome (here the Y chromosome)- So, the father has yet several SNPs mutations on his chromosome AND WE SAY his son has a different SNP when this son has one other SNPs mutation that his father lacks - but the reality is that he has yet the SNPs mutations that his father carried beofre him and passed to him - he is not a complete 'alien' to his father - 'downstream SNP' would be better said than "different SNP"
good evening
