That's what I thought. This is the data from a relative on my paternal side. I recently sent in my yDNA-36 marker test to FTDNA. What will the 36 marker tell me? Should I have bought the 67 or 111?

Thanks Zanipolo

I don't know why you would bother ordering costly STR tests to determine your subclade when you can just order a 23andMe test that will give you your deep subclades for both Y-DNA and mtDNA for only 99$.

Maciamo

Would you please point me to a list of which YDNA SNPs that are tested by 23andme. Based on my father's I originally expected that I would be either M222+ or L226+ but after getting my FTDNA YDNA67 it now appears I am most probably (southern Irish type) DF27*. I have results from FTDNA FF and FMS was planning to also take a GENO 2.0 test but understand from posts on the Internet that GENO 2.0 does not include testing for the SNPs for P312 or DF27 so it would probably only confirm I am P310+.

What does R1B North/South 2 mean? I used a Y predictor and it said I was 64% R1b - North/South 2 on 37STR. Is this equivalent to P312? Thanks.

I finally received my 67 marker test back from FTDNA. I don't match with anybody in the 67, 37, or 25 marker category.
I updated my info on YSearch.org and the closest match at 67 markers is a genetic distance of 15.

what is the tolerance of genetic distance for how close two people are related?

In post #1 I listed a relatives 12 marker test, and when compared to mine DYS392 was different. His was 14 and mine was 13. Is this typical within families, or is there some funny business going on?

After some additional research and a better understanding of DYS STR markers I've come to the conclusion that I'm not related to anybody in FTDNA or YSearch's Database (above a 12 marker match). I should of taken the advice of Maciamo and ordered the 23andme kit. All of my very far reaching matches >15 distance are in the P312 category. This makes me believe I'm at least P312*. I ordered the SNP U152 and L176.2, so we will see. If it comes back negative, I'll order the 23andme kit.

There are also the Geno 2.0 and Fullgenomes offerings. The Fullgenomes is very expensive but gives you about everything we can get today on the Y side of things.

I think Geno 2.0 is very competitive with 23andMe and has the advantage of allowing your results to be transferred over to your FTDNA account and therefore displayed in FTDNA projects.

What's your kit#? I'll compare it to the P312 database and see who are your closest possibilities by STR signature pattern and by GD (beyond FTDNA's base matching). We can then see what SNP testing those suspects have done.

At 67 markers, there are quite a view people just within L21(S145) that have GDs in the mid twenties with other L21 people. The same goes for U152(S28) and DF27. DF19 looks younger but we really don't know its extent. L238 also is a possibility although it looks quite young.

Whoaa! I just noticed this. Are you DYS437=14 DYS448=18 and then also GataH4=10 ?

That's Ken Nordtvedt's old criteria for what he called the R1b-North/South Cluster.

If you fit, you are a dead ringer for the Z220 or one of its downstream SNPs. You might want to look at the R1b-DF27 project.

GATA H4 = 11

My Ysearch number is D89BP, anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated. I ordered U152 and L176.2. If both come back negative, then I'll try DF27.

Hey Mikewww -

Did you get a chance to look at my YSearch data and see if anything jumped out? FTDNA didn't offer DF27 for testing in deep subclades only L176.2, L165, and SRT2627, but I have a feeling DF27 is my subclade.
