View Full Version : Amazing Technology.
If you think that everything people wanted and needed was invented, think again.
Every day human genius is pushing all the boundaries and invents new things.
Post here whatever technology you find genius or at leas amazing to share with all.
I just discovered a ball with a sole. It moves around like it was alive. A must have for pet owners.

Genius girl Dr Leslie Dewan can save the world from nuclear waste and give world almost unlimited energy!!!

Traditional nuclear reactors use up only 3% of energy trapped inside radioactive material. The molten salt reactor, the Transatomic Power design, can use 97%, clean up the world off all nuclear waste material and is incredibly safe to operate. No more Chernobyl or Fukushima.
Is this the tire of the future?

First 3D printed car, and it is road ready. Well only the body was printed. It was printed in 44 hours. Expect many custom cars in the future thanks to this technology, and it doesn't seem to be expensive.

Ground shaking announcement from Lockheed Martin Corporation. Supposedly they've figured out how to produce electricity from nuclear fusion. They claim that they will have working reactor in 10 years, the size of a truck, which is very small for reactors.
Nuclear fusion is the holy grail of energy source. Same fusion of hydrogen atoms that happens in core of our Sun. It will give us almost inexhaustible clean energy.
Well, if it only works this time. We've been promised Fusion Reactors for last 70 years, since explosion of first Hydrogen Bomb. Making the bomb was easy, reactor extremely difficult.

Not very useful ? I think they were aiming for a prototype of this.

Useful house security system (hoping the neighbours' kids don't come to your garden to get back their ball).

Wow ! That is really cool ! Imagine when these squares become microscopic pixels with heat and touch sensors integrated. We'll be able to touch things and other people virtually from anywhere in the world (or even on other planets just by sending robots) !

This would indeed be a true game changer for how the world produces energy - if this is true... The MIT Technology Review (http://www.technologyreview.com/news/531836/does-lockheed-martin-really-have-a-breakthrough-fusion-machine/) provides more mitigated feedback.
This technology escaped my attention. I was under impression that to isolate a gene from plant, animal or fungus and use it in research or transplant it to other plants or animals to achieve required characteristic, one needs to spend months of splicing and slicing a chromosome to get the pure gene. This is no longer true. There a machines, gene synthesizers, that can build a gene one letter at the time. It requires only sending a gene "blueprint" to this company and about 5,000 dollars for average gene and you will receive the gene you are after in few days.
How cool and futuristic is this?!!!

PS. They even guarantee no mutations. Better than nature, lol.
LED skylight looking convincingly real. For 70 thousand dollars one can enjoy summer sun even in the middle of winter.

The picture is of a new solar system 450 light years away. The new sun is in center and new planet is glowing in pink. Planet is glowing because hydrogen and other materials got squeezed and became very very hot, 10,000 Celsius. System is very young, only 2 million years old.
This is first direct evidence that the theory of solar system and planet formation from dust/hydrogen cloud is right! In this picture we can see a star, a planet, and still remaining hot gas swirling above them, yet to coalesce into farther planets, moons, comets, etc.
Few decades ago only few people believed that it will be possible to ever see planets in other solar systems. Here we go now!
Human genius doesn't stop to amaze.

Few years ago Watson computer from IBM has beaten best humans in Jeopardy game. Today another computer, this time from Google, Alphago beats the best human player of Chinese game Go. Supposedly the most difficult game ever. Score 4 to 1 for Alphago. Google says it is not much about a supercomputer, but more about very clever software. Smart software which can learn from every played game.

Truly Amazing.
Flyboard! Is this how we are going to travel soon?
Coolest personal flying technology.

Or just fun new sport?
I'm going to love this one. These are augmented reality glasses by Microsoft, Hololens. Have a look...
https://youtu.be/Ql5aWF0vURc?t=12
I think they are still in Beta testing and cost a little fortune of 10,000 USD. But hey, most of us should have it or similar devices in few years. Less cumbersome and less geeky too. We no longer will need computer screen. Put your augmented reality glasses on and you can see as many screens, applications open or documents displayed around you as you need. You no longer need a laptop or pc because the glasses is your computer and your phone, with voice communication.
You can put your glasses on and go fix your car, as you can see your car and tutorial at the same time. Put glasses on and watch a game, and you will feel like sitting at the stadium. Sit on exercise bike with your glasses and it will seem like riding through a countryside, or riding streets of historic cities. Countless possibilities. It will be a paradigm shift, like personal computer and smart phones were.
Other cool uses and competitors.

Not only we can edit genetic code at will these days, for the first time we can actually see it being edited.
CRISPR is a powerful gene-editing tool that allows researchers to cut and paste snippets of DNA to make targeted changes to a living organism’s genome. It’s a method that’s fast and easy, and it has ushered in a new era of customized life.
Scientists have used the technique to breed mosquitoes that resistant to the malaria virus (http://discovermagazine.com/2015/may/14-mosquito-modified), develop treatments for muscular dystrophy (https://www.technologyreview.com/s/603737/startup-aims-to-treat-muscular-dystrophy-with-crispr/), grow pig organs (http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/d-brief/2015/10/12/crispr-pig-organ-transplant/#.Wgy7jUtry_4)suitable for humans, cure blindness (http://newsroom.cumc.columbia.edu/blog/2016/01/27/crispr-used-repair-blindness-causing-genetic-defect-patient-derived-stem-cells/) and invent new drugs—all this without ever actually seeing it in action.
But that all changed thanks to Japanese researcher Osamu Nureki, who, along with his colleagues, recorded video of CRISPR chopping a strand of DNA into two pieces. Nureki debuted the video in June before a crowd of scientists gathered for a conference in Big Sky, Montana. Scientists tend to mute their emotions when it comes to scrutinizing results in their field of study, but when Nureki hit play, gasps rippled through the crowd (https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2017/11/crispr-video-real-time/545603/).
