This thread is dedicated to proposing new famous members of haplogroup R1b-L21 (M529) and its subclades.

So far, confirmed R1b-L21 carriers include:

- The House of Stuart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Stuart) (DF13 > DF41 > L744 > S781)

- James Buchanan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Buchanan) (L1335 > CTS11722 according to the Buchanan DNA Project (https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Buchanan/default.aspx?section=yresults))

- William Ewart Gladstone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Ewart_Gladstone) (see here (http://www.eupedia.com/forum/threads/30152-British-PM-William-Gladstone-belonged-to-R1b-L21))

Here are a few prospective carriers that should be further investigated.

- John Fitzgerald Kennedy and family : the Kennedy DNA Project has mostly L21 members, including one Patrick Kennedy b. 1785 in Ireland, which could be his ancestor and who is M222.

you might already have this person below

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2718376/

IIRC he was a R1b

Please check the Famous R1b list (http://www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml#famous_people) before posting. This thread is exclusively dedicated to L21 individuals. Copernicus's subclade hasn't been determined, but there is 99% chance that he is not L21.

Given JFK ancestor was from South-East I'd think M222 is unlikely. Generally irish Kennedy family (as oppose to Scottish Kennedy) is regarded as Dál gCais (L226+) though from testing we also see that they can "Irish Type IV" and there's even some who are L21-/DF27+

One of the things JFK is most known for is being the first Irish Catholic president, it is fitting if he belonged to a signature Irish Y DNA haplogroup.
