Happy New Year everyone!
For Auld Lang Syne; For Old Time's Sake. Never forget your old and new friends and your family. To rephrase from "It's A Wonderful Life", there lie true riches. The only things you take with you are the things you gave away.
Listen with earphones; you'll thank me for it. :)

Good album.
I'm kind of new to Black Metal and I cannot believe how good some of these albums are from Darkthrone, Bathory (favorite), Mayhem. Great genre and looking forward to listen to Transilvanian Hunger next.

R.I.P. Ronnie Spector. If she looks and sounds familiar, you'd be right. She was Amy Winehouse's idol, and you can see it not only in the sound but in the "look". Poor woman, having to be married to that man.

Amazing vocal rhythm, more about this;
'The eminent linguist and scholar Eqrem Cabej wrote that the character and history of a people are best reflected in folk poetry, and that this poetry can not be understood if we do not know the life of ancient Albanians, if we do not understand poetry as a product and function of this life. According to this author "in the mountains of Albania are preserved alive the ancient melodies of the country. The oldest melodies live in the songs of the Mountaineers of Northern Albania. But it was not only the song, the melody among the visages of ancient times, but also institutes other old ones, such as superstitions, doctrines, elders, assemblies - as a source of wisdom, philosophy and governance - has been the reason why in the last two centuries many scholars and travelers of Europe rushed to the northern Albanian highlands to observe and record an interesting world, a rare "museum" of values that still lived "conserved" in the soul and free land of the Albanian mountains. This people for their language, customs, tribes and folklore is simply national and corresponds to the older Albanians, and hence in every respect it is more reliable'
https://www.google.com/books/edition/Ars_Poetica_Nr_14_Dhjetor_2008/-hXxBQAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0
'It is well known that Albanian mountain folk can communicate by calling to one another at great distances, from hill to hill, Such conversation at a distance is directly confirmed for us by medieval sources. Created by the pressure of nature, this custom is ancient and holds for all mountain peoples.'
- Serbs and Albanians (Milan Sufflay)

Caro Damiano, che tenero che sei; ho pianto con te, e per te.
I hope RAI will release the official version soon. Till then, this will have to do. He had tears in his eyes throughout, and half the orchestra performers looked like they did as well. That last part with all of his colleagues with him at the front sharing his pain, and also his joy at being back, and then watching him break down in tears, well, words fail me. What a performance. What a gift indeed he gave us, and can I just say how wonderful it was to hear this ballad backed up by the wonderful orchestra. Why can't American audiences value this instead of just his simplest, least emotional songs? Does it really have to always be in English?

But tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline CoralineCoraline as beautiful as the sun
A Warrior with a zealous heart
Hair like red roses
Those copper wires are precious,
love, bring them to me
If you hear bells ringing
You will see Coraline crying
She takes the pain of others
And then she carries it inside herCoraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline CoralineBut she knows the truth
Moving forward isn’t for everyone
With her heart divided in two
It’s cold already
She is a child but she feels
A weight on her and sooner or later she will break
People will say, “She’s worth nothing”
She can’t even get out of a wretched door
But one day, one time, she will succeed
And I told Coraline she can grow
Take her things and then leave
But she feels a monster is holding her in a cage
That covers the road with mines
And I told Coraline she can grow
Take her things and then leave
But Coraline doesn’t want to eat no
Yes Coraline would like to disappearAnd Coraline cries
Coraline has anxiety
Coraline wants the sea but is afraid of water
And maybe the sea is inside of her
And every word is an axe
A cut on her back
Like a raft that sails
On a raging river
And maybe the river is inside of her, her I will be the fire and the cold
Your shelter in winter
I will be what you breathe
I will understand what you have inside of you
And I’ll be the water you drink
The meaning of good
I will also be a soldier
Or your light in the evening
And in return I ask for nothing
Just a smile
For every little tear you shed is an ocean on my face
And in return I ask for nothing
Just a little bit of time
I will be your banner, your shield
Or your silver sword
And Coraline cries
Coraline has anxiety
Coraline wants the sea but is afraid of water
And maybe the sea is inside of her
And every word is an axe
A cut on her back
Like a raft that sails
On a raging river
And maybe the river is inside of her, herBut tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline, Coraline, tell me your truths
Coraline CoralineCoraline, beautiful as the sun
She lost the fruit of her womb
She has not known love
But a father who is nothing like a father
They told you there is a castle in the city
With such powerful walls
That if you go live inside
Nothing can hit you anymore
Nothing can hit you anymore

The instrument Zurna/Zurla spread with the Ottomans in the Balkans and has no affiliation with ancient South East Europe or Europe in general. The word stems from old Persian "surnay" which in itself is argued to have a Hittite or Luwian origin.

Ditto.
Every time I go out and there is traditional Albanian music, it really makes me think that our motives are quite unique not only globally, but even in the region. Sure Balkans have some similarities, but having lived with many different peoples and in different parts of it, the similarities end at some point, and whatever is left gives me the vibe of a uniquely Albanian tradition.

Quizas,Quizas,Quizas, in English.
With a strong lead all you have to do is look in his eyes, and follow his hand signals.
The Baz Luhrmann film from which it comes is quirky, has hysterical too-close ups, and laugh out loud sequences, but according to professional dancers the world it portrays is very accurate, as Baz Luhrmann would have known, because he grew up in a dance studio.
Whenever reality gets to be too grim, this is a film high on my list to watch. Feel good doesn't begin to cover it.

If you ever liked Pink Flloyd's "Echoes" at Pompei. I guess you will like that also.

The music is matching well with the filming.

Why? Is it because it was about a one-night stand and they don't want people to know they had them?
For crying out loud, did someone put a gun to their heads and tell them they had to record it?
I think we should all be grown up enough to know that the songs people sing are not always autobiographical.
That said, I never particularly liked it; couldn't relate to the circumstances, although I and probably every other woman could relate to the desire. However, not everyone is as conservative as I was and am, so I'm sure it has plenty of fans.

I need cheerful music..
The French court dance the "gigue", became the Irish "jig" and the Italian giga.
Thanks to Simone for the "Giga Emiliana" played on the piva, which I find less objectionable than the similar bagpipes, and much preferable to the piffero, which is supposedly in the oboe family but is much, much sharper. :)

Enter Sadman - Metallica
https://youtu.be/CD-E-LDc384
Yesterday at 9:00 PM I went to a show by the American band Metallica here in Belo Horizonte. I'm not an "initiate" in the band's sound because I know few hits. My son is a big fan of the band and I went to accompany him, as his girlfriend doesn't like heavy metal. There were 60,000 people in the stadium yesterday and they knew and sang very well all the lyrics of the band's songs. A beautiful show that demonstrates that Rock still has a lot of strength among young people, the absolute majority of the audience. Below I post a short video of the performance excerpt from “Enter Sadman” yesterday here in BH.

One of my favorite myths. Sweet Persephone has returned from the Underworld to spend six months with her beloved mother, and Demeter shines her joy onto all the earth, bringing fertility and joy to the land and animals. :)

Lecce is like a Baroque fantasy; so lovely.
Had no idea he was from an Arbereshe family. It shows their complete incorporation into Italian culture, and the inclusivity of that culture.
I had some experience of that personally. It was ten years before I learned that the wife of an Italian American couple in our pool club was Arbereshe. It's not that she wasn't proud of her ancestry, just that she knew Americans wouldn't understand it, so she didn't go into it with more casual acquaintances.

As a history enthusiast, I'm listening to this recreated Byzantine/Roman music. The talented composer and singer Farya Faraji managed to create a piece of Ancient Roman and Greek (march) music that sounds very authentic and awesome at the same time. And his Greek/ Classic Latin pronunciation is on point and natural. Besides, I like the sound of the drums, zither, and trumpets. I can only recommend his channel.

The second and third selections were new to me. Very, very, nice. As time goes on the productions are more professional and at the same time showcase more clearly the elemental nature of the music and dance, which is what so enthralls me. It's as if you're watching the Maenads sing and dance.
Amazing how this has been lost in Greece but remains in southern Italy.
As for me I'm still on my MINA yearly obsession. Grande, Grande, Grande, is one of my favorites, but almost an impossibility to translate into English because the Italian words have such different connotations, and also because of the cultural context.
I have to fight with you
one cannot take you the way you are
you have so many defects
that even you can’t name them all.
You’re worse than a naughty child,
you always want to have it your way
you’re the most arrogant and egotistical man
I’ve ever met.
But what’s good about you is that at the right time
you can change completely
in a moment you can
be wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, and I
forget all my troubles.
I see all of my friends,
they seem more relaxed than me
they don’t need to fight over every little thing
the way you make me do,
they receive gifts and red roses
for their birthdays,
they always say yes
never have any problem and are convinced
that life is like that.
But no, but no
life is what you give me,
in this war everyday I feel alive,
I feel alive
I am the way you like me.
I hate you, but I love you, but I love you, but I hate you
but I love you,
do not ever leave me again
you’re wonderful, wonderful, wonderful
there’s no one as wonderful as you.
I hate you, but I love you, but I love you, but I hate you but I love you,
do not ever leave me again
you’re wonderful, wonderful, wonderful,
there’s no one as wonderful as you.
Don't ever leave me again
you’re wonderful, wonderful, wonderful,
there’s no one as wonderful as you.

Her Majesty The Queen has died. May her soul find rest.
https://youtu.be/j7ujvOWWfpY
I listened to Prince Charles' nine-minute speech today, not even 24 hours since his mother's death. His grief was carved into his face and shone in his eyes.
No matter how old you are, the death of a beloved mother is devastating.
I thought he was controlled, dignified, seemed very sincere and humble, and at the same time committed to serve in a manner which would make his mother proud. I've heard people opine that it would have been better if Anne could have reigned, but in the current climate some humility, some softness and sensitivity won't go amiss.
I wish him all the best and hope he gives the British people and Commonwealth what they need in these troubled times, no matter that I'm a Republican at heart and no monarchist in any way.
