I think I know this ..can I see a little Irish in her mix? [ if I am right, I won`t name her.]

I thought so too, Hope, and in fact I bet I know the person you have in mind, but so far as I know, she doesn't have any Irish heritage.

She is the actress that played Delilah. She is Austrian Hedy Lamarr.

I am surprised she was Jewish. It was her idea to randomize radio signals now a standard feature in military communication.

Oops, sorry. I didn't read that note about knowing her identity. Well she was a Hollywood actress so it wouldn't too difficult.

Perhaps next time I should put the request not to reveal the identity if you know it in BOLD? :)

@
Hope,

As I said, I also once thought she might have been part Irish. Then, in earlier years, the biographical info was that she was Austrian. Apparently, the fact that she was Jewish wasn't widely known, as it wasn't known about Claudette Colbert.

I always thought she looked a bit like Vivien Leigh in photographs. Was she the one you meant? It was definitely a type that Hollywood loved.

Gene Tierney was another one:

The same oil millionaire married both Hedy Lamarr and Gene Tierney.

I did think it was Vivien Leigh, Angela. I have now looked at a few pictures of V.L. around this age [along with those you posted] and can see the difference. At first look I really did think it was her. Oh well...
Yes, they did seem to go for this look for a while you`re right.

In the 60s or 70s Hedy Lamarr was arrested for stealing a piece of clothing from a department store even though she had $60,000 in her accounts. Of course, she had not worked since 'Samson and Delilah'. Vivian Leigh was more curvy and born in India. She married Laurence Olivier. She died from Tuberculosis.

Claudette Colbert in 'It happened one night':

It was Alan Hale singing. His son Alan Hale Jr would be in the TV show 'Gilligan's Island' as the Captain.

possibly French?

I think all three of them were stunningly beautiful; modern actresses don't hold a candle to them as far as I'm concerned. The same goes for actors. I sound properly shallow now, but if there are two talented actors available for a role, I'd rather watch the gorgeous one. Of course, there are some actors with such an overpowering personality, charisma, for lack of a better word, that appearance is forgotten.

I wonder if current reports about Vivien Leigh being one quarter Armenian are true? If they are true, it's interesting how quite a few stars from Britain had some "foreign" admixture. There's the case of the Indian ancestry of Merle Oberon, for example, who was stunning. I particularly loved her in Wuthering Heights.

Looking back, you can see it in certain pictures.

Then there's Ava Gardner. There were rumors for years that she had some distant African and/or American Indian ancestry through the Melungeon type tri-racial isolates of North Carolina. Her current bio just mentions Amerindian ancestry. It was a fortuitous combination, whatever it was, as I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful woman.

I'm also reminded of Tyrone Power. I always had a hard time believing there was absolutely no Mediterranean in him.

I just checked on Claudette Colbert, and there's no indication she was Jewish. I probably read it on some dubious site at some point. French Catholic, as her name would seem to indicate.

You really are quite brushed up on the facts about these movie stars, Angela.....:)

Gregory Peck is part Armenian. Merle Oberon was born in India. Audrey, Audra or Edda Hepburn's father was Irish Scottish with maybe Idoneasian blood (his mother could be Indoneasian) and was a Blackshirt. Her mother a Duchess was a Lady in Waiting for the the Dutch Queen, had Hungarian blood of possibly Jewish origin.
