Guess this young woman

Spanish or Portuguese?

I would have guessed northern Italian, based on people I know who are from there. But the people in the background in the last picture look kind of Serbian to me. I'm probably way off.

Someplace in the Balkans would have been my second choice. She could be northern Italian, and it wouldn't surprise me if she is, but that wasn't the impression that I got from the combination of features. The face said Iberia to me, probably northern Spain or the Bay of Biscayne?

I could be totally off, too. :) It's just a fun parlor game.

People in the background are not from the place she lives. She was on holiday back then :)
Other opinions?

Looking for more opinions, before revealing the truth ;)
Suggestion: her ancestry has already been correctly guessed...

as ridicule doesn't kill a human being (an lesser yet an animal)
I would say she shows some 'atlanto-med' basis (whatever the genetic deep backgound of this type) with some 'nordic' accretions, so a kind of Spanish woman -
french is very possible too (all Europe from SW Mediterranea to N-Sea can be found among Franchies) -
very worst guess: North-Italy - very less evident for a Portuguese female or for other places (except Greece?) - she doesn't seem 'balkanic' of any sort for me -
here we speak about general rules, not exceptions, evidently...

I knew a Portuguese friend who had a sister who looked like her but with red hair.

Iberian OR Sephardic Jew.

very worst guess: North-Italy -
;) Sile and Aberdeen were correct. The answer to this dilemma is the simplest possible: she's a friend of mine, living in Liguria, NW Italy. Her ancestors are mostly from Liguria, furthermore she has a grandpa from Emilia-Romagna. I've never thought she could pass in Iberia; more likely in France in my eyes. Can I ask what would make her a typical, or at least not unusual, iberian? You MOESAN talked about 'atlanto-med'... Isn't it a genetic cluster of a Dienekes calculator?

North Italian makes sense, but I'd have said Iberian as a first guess. I know Portuguese people with this look.

I just saw this...

We have to defend our honor, here, Moesan!

Perhaps I've watched too much calcio...

I know there's more than one type among the Basques, but when I was in San Sebastien and then went over the mountains into the French side, this was the type that stuck in my mind. It was that combination of very long face, small, rather close set eyes, wide, big mouth that can expose the gums when smiling, the long, narrow, rather bumpy noses, and the large pointy chins. Of course, that doesn't mean that's the most common type.

Ed. Sorry, the second half didn't post.

From my recollection, this type is usually darker, though, as it is in Catalonia...

Now that I reflect on it further, you do see it in northwestern Italy, but not as extreme. Aren't they usually fairer, too and with eyes that are a little further apart?

OK, I've now convinced myself I had a premature senior moment! You get a point, Mars. I'm keeping track!

Well, in the end I think most physical features in Europe are just "international", because they formed in specifical macro-areas (western Europe/eastern Europe, northern EU/southern EU etc.) a long before empires, kingdoms and nations formed. So, this "guess ethnicity" is just fun... And your latest post was funny (y)

She looks italian probably north western italian.

she his very dolichocephalic at first sight, very long faced, and not too 'nordic' looking spite a middle-fair pigmentation (apparently) - I maintain my "pronostic", she had a bit more chances to be 'iberian' than 'north-italian' -
spite what a forumer said here, she would be a rare case in Portugal, but not in the three-quarters of Spain regions EVEN IF NOT TYPICAL there - I repeat she could be very easily french, swiss, berlgian too -
but a lot of regions show more than a common type!
