Australia taking part this year? That is something really new. Maybe we see Canada next year? I mean Celine Dione already won it for them in 1988.....in the name of Switzerland of course :). I guess because of the interest it generates and the majority of the population is related mostly to European countries. Im not too familiar with the demographics but it seems like it.

Thanks Maleth...since Italy didn't compete for years I didn't keep up with it much. I'm more of a San Remo girl. That's not to say that I like most of the offerings there, either.

What Happened?

Italy is back in Eurovision?

Well personally I voted Lordi in the past, and I enjoy it much,

this year I might vote 'Punks not dead' you can guess who

Although I believe that Ukraine or Hungary might win,

Well the Eurovision is a San Remo creation . I am still sussing out all the songs, and I think im getting close to a favourite. My favourites do not mean much as they usually never win haha.

From what I can see on the comments, people think the voting is usually for allied or neighboring countries. Is that true? That would be a shame.

Favourite ballad:- Russia - Million voices (of course they have to be very careful not to get two men together in video because they will get arrested for promoting homosexuality according to Putin's gay propoganda laws :rolleyes2::rolleyes2::rolleyes2:.... but two women is ok, will not end you up in jail. Great song never the less.

Favourite Dance:- Sweden - Heroes

Most refreshing:- UK - Still in love with you

Yes its very obvious neighbors vote for each other, most obvious are Spain and Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, Scandinavian countries and believe it or not BALKAN countries like ALBANIA GIVING 12 POINTS TO SERBIA  But in all fairness the best songs always do prevail. Another thing is the general taste for a particular genre of music is different in all regions, so there are always a couple that seem to go down well across the board.

yeah

the 4 12 points of Scans
the 5 12 of ex-Yugoslavia
and the 6-9 of ex-Ussr

!!!!!!

and strangely at most countries, half points are by people votes, 1 E in Greece
and other Half from a comittee!!!!!!!!!
no it is strange,
since the year with the lowest comittees and max of voting
the most freehttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.eupedia.com/forum/) Eurovision, was won, by who?
BY THE PEOPLE, and not by the 'comittee'

Athens 2006 The most Freehttp://cdncache-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png (http://www.eupedia.com/forum/) Eurovision, with less comittee votes, what Europeans hear that year,
away from Woman legs and t***, and pretty boys with slim characteristics

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAh9NRGNhUU&spfreload=10

Next year Eurovision officers forced a non rock-metal policy, and most countries votes were 50% by a 'comittee'
isn't that strange?
but after realize and start to open mind,
and allowed the Austrain to finals, even win!!!
that is why I will vote Finland this year again!!!!
Punks not dead

Lordi song was a good one (except for the masks). I think it was much better then this years, although it might get a good number of 'sympathy' votes (so to speak)

yes Lordi song was good,
but poor as metal, design for Eurovision,
this year Finland song is the first Punk song ever been in Eurovision,
but Punk musigue runs for more than 2 decades Europe, and eveb travel to USA,
so even if late, I believe a Punk song must win once,
and offcourse not British
since both movements start from there, but never went to a Eurovision contest, with that flag.
although in Britain, and generally in Europe, climb the charts and even broke the limits sometimes,

Disco music had its best in Eurovision, especially with 1979 Germany,
It was like a boney M at their best, and even better

I used to enjoy some punk, sex pistols were ok but Adam and the ants were my favourite punk group. It would not be my choice, but if Lordi were able to win, I have no doubt that a punk song can do it too. Eurovision is quite unpredictable these days and has become 'bi polar'. I think its good.

oups I got caught!!!!
Yes I like monsters!!!!!!

it is a show, ok, a show must satisfy both, eyes and hears,
nice t*ts is a good view,
but is a song contest, not a show contest, so it must please my ears, not my eyes,
anyway, many times in Eurovision the stylistic costumes were such .... that many cabaret women would envy
or the dancers had such muscles, that Arnold Schwarzenegger would fenvy.

anyway Russia has a fantastic song,

anyway to go more with Statistics.

many famous, and I mean famous, did not manage to win the contest,

I think the artist with the most perfomances was a woman from Malta, or Andora in the decades of 70's
a tremendous singer, with tremendous abilities in vocals, little bit fat, if I remember correct.

anyway, now days people prefer to sing in national language or English,

this is from ESC (European Song Contast) Mother of Eurovision,
at that time people prefer to sing in Francais or Italian

In fact I will change the title of this thread to Eurovision 2015 and more . Yes I liked the one from Germany and Norway. I think there are quite a few I like this year too. Slovenia is another one, great rhythm too. You said something sensible. How important it is to have a good performance on the night as some of them do sound nothing like the record when sung live.

There seems to be more ballads this year and I haven`t noticed the usual odd outrageous entry..or maybe I missed it?
Yes, the overall quality is pretty good and there are a few in particular, if they perform well on the night, which should pick up points. The first time I heard the song from Germany, I didn`t much care for it, then I found the version I posted here and it`s grew on me...
Re. thread title, it is fine I don`t see a need to change. I just wasn`t sure if we were posting this years entries...now had I been more attentive and actually read the title, I wouldn`t have had to ask...
Here is one I remember from 2011 because it stuck in my head for ages...Dino Merlin...[ you`ve got to like how they play the instruments without even barely touching them...]

haha looks like magic. Not very good at miming are they? Dont recall that song tho, its a good one. This years odd one is Finland with the punk song. If they won with Lordi and heavy metal, they might do it all over again. Its the one that Yetos and myself were debating :).

I like Belgium's song....sort of "Lorde" like, and more "depth" than most of these songs. I really like the U.K. entry too. Too bad they didn't do better.

I'm surprised that Il Volo went that far...not in the same mold as most of these songs. It wasn't hard to be the most talented, however, because unfortunately most of these people can't sing! At least the Swedish singer was nice to look at, though.

Anouk from Netherlands was my favorite last year and ended same position. We all thought grande amore would do well as they gave a good performance and sounded good too. I presume different regions have different musical preferences too, it could be a reason why neighbors vote for each other. However there are a number of songs that seem to appeal across the board.

yes, I believe that is big part of it. In addition, especially in countries that used to be one country, people often already know musicians that compete for neighboring countries.
Another aspect is national majorities and immigrants that tend to vote for their country of origin because of reasons above but also as a way to feel and express patriotic feelings.
