Ancient Burial Reveals Embraced Skeletons.

Very nice find, Hope.

Just so we have them in one place, here is the 700 year old burial from England where the couple is holding hands.

I'm not aware of the Serbian example.

Also, here is another Neolithic (6,000 year old) burial where the man and the woman were found in an embrace, although this time facing one another, with legs and arms intertwined. They're called "The Lovers of Valdarno" and were found near Mantova in northern Italy.

From what I've been able to find out, it's not at all clear that the couples died in these positions, so the members of their communities were apparently aware of the depth of their bond, and that probably influenced the decision to bury them in that way.

I find it very moving..

Since you know I love pictures...

I think the one on the right is a woman. She is still talking. ;)

Yes, LeBrok, I have formed the impression that you are the strong, silent type. :)

These things don't always track with the expected gender associations, however. I married into a very "talky" family, and they were also the type who could never let an argument go...you know, the kind of people who have to have the last word. One aunt in law who also married into this very verbal (and argumentative) family was a little hard of hearing. She said her hearing aid saved her marriage. When her husband would drone on and on she simply turned it off. There's always a silver lining somewhere.

Also there is another piece regarding the skeletons that are spooning...

I wonder if this is just a sweet couple or was there something sinister behind the deaths?

There appears to be quite a few of these style burials. Here is another from Turkey.
