View Full Version : Did ancient South Indians used to have curly hair?

It's just a thought that occured to me. The native Australians and Melanesians have curly hair; their copy of Trichohyalin remained relatively unmutated since they left Africa. Also, there are islanders in the Indian Ocean that have curly hair, such as the Setinelese. Could it be that many thousands of years ago, a majority of South Indians had curly hair? Perhaps, the curly hair copy of Trichohyalin was slowly replaced by alleles encoding for long hair. The origin of that allele in South Indians could either be from random mutation or from introduction by other populations.
