I just got my autosomal DNA tests over at FTDna and I uploaded the results to GEDMatch. I just ran this test on my DNA sample to see what I'd get.

I find the above interesting as the Family Finder stuff at FTDNA suggested I was 14% Jewish Diaspora and 1% East-Asian. It appears the breakdown from Eurogenes suggests otherwise, and I checked to make sure it included such populations (which it does as other people have gotten such).

Here the Ashkenazi pops up again, but only in respect to 4 populations breakdown. Interestingly, result #1 does correspond well with part of my ancestry in Southwest England (Cornwall) and West Germany (Rheinland-Plafz), both of which I have confirmed ancestors, but I've no significant Scottish, and I know of no Jewish, ancestry.

What should lead to this kind of discrepancy in numbers?

Maybe "Tuscan" is equivalent to "Jewish Diaspora" in this case. For some reason.

Maybe "Tuscan" is equivalent to "Jewish Diaspora" in this case. For some reason.

Yeah, I find that really odd.

Maybe it's because of um, Near East farmer DNA? Or something? Etruscan DNA being thought of as Jewish, because the Etruscans may have come from the ME/NE earlier?

I know of no Italian ancestry at all, either.

Also, see this, the J Test from Eurogenes:

The 4 population thing seems really odd, given that...the Ashkenazi score is 6.00. Which makes me suspect that maybe this is somewhat of a fluke? The Eurogenes said that 2-3 percent is unlikely, whereas 25% is pure Ashkenazi. So uh, maybe I hvae like, a single Jewish ancestor several generations back, or Etruscan (???) is coming up as Jewish?

Etruscans have nothing to do with Jewish and hardly Tuscans are the same of Etruscans. Jewish diaspora peaks in northern Europeans (Polish?) and Ashkenazis cluster with Southern Italians/Greeks but Ashkenazis have nothing to do with Southern Italians/Greeks.

I have someone say they're a Polish cousin from FTDNA, but I don't know of any actual Polish ancestry. Likewise, I don't know any Italian/Greek ancestry.

The Tuscan thing is really peculiar. As peculiar as Ashkenazi.

Could the Sicily be comparing my genes to Normans in Sicily? All this Italian ancestry really doesn't make much sense.

- I don't know what a lot of these abbreviations mean. Does anyone know what "ETN" means? Estonian?

Could the Sicily be comparing my genes to Normans in Sicily? All this Italian ancestry really doesn't make much sense.

Those numbers after the nationality are measuring "goodness of fit". None of them are very good for you, because you are such a mixture of different ethnic groups, like a lot of Americans.

People from Europe with all four grandparents from one area can get very good "fits". On some calculators, some northern Europeans can get fits under 1. Italians are much more diverse, but I, for example, get a fit of around 2 on the calculators that have a lot of samples from northern Italy and Tuscany.

So, you don't have all this "Italian". Look how far down the list it is.

What is indeed showing up is European Neolithic ancestry, for example, most of which came from the ancient Near East. Everybody in Europe has that to one degree or another, just like everybody in Europe has some CHG, and everybody has WHG, even if it's "buried" in their EEF score.

...It seems like Italian might really be part of my ancestry? This is odd.

Very, very, very intriguing!

Ah, so what is showing up is European Neolithic. That goes hand in hand with H64 as a MDNA haplogroup, no?
