Despite the name, "Little England" is a Greek film, and a darn good one in my opinion. I found it to be quite haunting, in fact. It is by the veteran director Pantelis Voulgaris.

This is the trailer:

The whole film, with English subtitles, is available on youtube. If stories about doomed love, set in gorgeous locations, and performed by wonderful actors at all appeal, then give it a shot.

'little England' is a nickname for Greek island Andros,

they had many ship owners and captains, and naval offices at London,
their wifes had nothing to ask, since they had most of what West European had
and extra, the curse of lonelyness, and the loss of their men.

the story is from a Book of Καρυστιανη around 1990's and took many awards.
καρυστιανη also wrote ΝΥΦΕΣ.

yet I believe that Μεγαλη Χιμαιρα (the other view, a European that comes to Greek islands) of Karagatsis is better.

I think the women in all sea-faring areas suffer from the same loneliness. Liguria is much the same.

I would be interested in reading translations of the works of both authors. I looked up Ioanna-Karystiani, and there are translations of "Swell" and something called the "Jasmine Isle", but not anything called "Brides". I can't find any English translations of works by Karagatsis. Pity.

I'll definitely take a look at the Karystiani books. The movie "Brides" is also on youtube. I'll definitely be watching it. The American actor later became famous for appearing on an American series called "Homeland".

anyway,

it has to do with female psychology, rights, and demands,
you see in modern capitalistic world,
mariage sometimes can be an economical bargain,
and in such cases the woman must be loyal, and mother, even a lover,
but not in the deep of a female psychosynthesis.

in reproduction matters, at the levels of nature, surely the female is the hunter, she choose the 'victim'.
the polytheists call that time of a female's life, Virgin Huntress, protected by Artemis,
she choose the man, with whom she believes she will had descentants cable to survive,
the choice of who must be reproduced is given to women by Gods.
but that does not happen all the times, especially in modern world,
