It was found at Abel Beth Maacah, a tel at the northern border of Israel, which " hints that the population was Israelite in the 9th century BCE. This discovery could give credence to the biblical history of Israel’s occupation of Abel Beth Maacah in the 8th-10th centuries BCE (2 Sam. 20:14–22), and the destruction of Abel Beth Maacah by the Aramean King Ben Hadad in the 9th century BCE (1 Kings 15:20)."

"“Ritual symbolic behavior and cultural traditions are among the most elusive categories of ancient life for the archaeologist to fathom,” said Mullins. “While the scene on the Abel Beth Maacah seal can be interpreted in different ways, it likely represents a dance, related perhaps to fertility, military victory, mourning, or divine protection. This seal is a small, yet meaningful artifact that helps us construct an understanding of this interesting and important biblical site.”

This article is a bit after the fact. A paper has already been published about the find. Apparently, seals were in common use at the time. The rather simplistic nature of this one compared to others that have been found indicates to the archaeologist that perhaps this one belonged to a middle class person.

Here it is:

The role of dance at this place and time is very well known:

1 Samuel 18:6-7 (http://bible.knowing-jesus.com/1-Samuel/18/6)
"It happened as they were coming, when David returned from killing the Philistine, that the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy and with musical instruments. The women sang as they played, and said, "Saul has slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands.""

Seems like things have not changed much :sad-2:.
