"NOVOSIBIRSK, RUSSIA—The Siberian Times reports that beads made of ostrich eggshells were discovered in Denisova Cave, which is located in the Altai Mountains. The beads measure less than one-half inch in diameter and are thought to be between 45,000 and 50,000 years old. “This is an amazing piece of work,” said researcher Maksim Kozlikin of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography. “The ostrich eggshell is quite robust material, but the holes in the beads must have been made with a fine stone drill.” He thinks the beads could have been part of a bracelet or a necklace, or may have been sewn into clothing. The presence of the beads in Denisova Cave suggests that the people who lived there had trade contacts to import either the eggshells or the finished beads. The jewelry items were found in the same archaeological layer where a bracelet made of dark green stone was found in 2008."

Impressive.

ostrich?
and I thought only in Africa and Australia they live.

these Denisovans are amazing
few months ago a bracelet and a needle were discovered

somehow it seems like the Gravettians took over some of the Denisovan technology, but 15000 years later

it was the drilling skills and the better textiles that gave the Gravettians the edge to outcompete the Aurignacians in Europe
the Gravettians took up similar drilling techniques like the Denisovans in Mezmayskaya cave, NZ Caucuasus some 36 ka

it is strange that such skilled people like the Denisovans got extinct so early in history

They are located under primary mound 1 in feature 101 where one individual was buried under a layer of over 20,000 beads and one individual on top of the beads. These beads were laid out in a design of a bird similar to other Mississippian art work. The combination of both human and bird can be seen in the birdman tablet

I think you're referring to emu birds that live in Australia, not sure if they're ostriches or related to them. They are cute!
