I've had my genome tested for ancestry by both 23andMe and FTdna and I've downloaded the raw data (all the A, C, G and Ts). 23andMe say that I have 2.5% Neanderthal ancestry. Is there any way I can find out precisely which genes, or more exactly, phenotypes I have inherited from Neaderthals?

Thanks,
Paul

dear laetoli,
another tool
is the geno2 next generation test
can tell you also how much % neaderthal ancestery you got
https://shop.nationalgeographic.com/product/genographic-2.0-kits/geno-2.0-next-generation-genographic-helix-dna-ancestry-kit--u.s.-delivery
it will look like this:
8380

p.s
in another forum middle eatern people score 0.6-0.9 %

dear bicicleur ,
how can we know the real %
of neaderthal ancestery in middle eastern and europeans ?
and how do you know that those % is not correct ?

it is a well-established fact that Neanderthal admixture occured abt 55-60 ka somewhere near the Levant or the Zagros Mts and all non-SSA people have 1.5-2.5 % Neanderthal DNA

or is there another definition for Neanderthal ancestry?

As I have just learned:
"There is undeniable skeletal evidence that Neanderthals evolved and became less robust and closer to Homo Sapiens over time, starting at least 100,000 years ago."

so do you think the numbers
geno2 next generation give is not reliable enough ?
do you consider 23andme more precise in neaderthal ancestery ?
kind regards

Adam,

I don't know what geno 2 or 23andme consider as Neanderthal ancestry, but

The proportion of Neanderthal-derived ancestry was estimated to be 1–4% of the Eurasian genome.[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archaic_human_admixture_with_modern_humans#cite_no te-greends-2) In 2013, the same team of researchers revised the proportion to an estimated 1.5–2.1%.

I have taken the test at "my heritage".
I uploaded my results at promethease and my reading of Neanderthal DNA is 0%. I believed that only some subsaharian Africans are free of it.
I am 99% European R1B
Can that be correct?

I only know what you are telling us here. But based on that, my somewhat educated guess leads me to believe that your test results are wrong at least somewhere.
