Evzoni is the traditinional guard of Greece,
a kind of praitorians, today is the guard and army of President of Democracy,
a hard tough corp that has fought in most battles after 1921.

Today is used mainly for parades, and diplomatic and other celebrations.
a kind of army ballet tottaly different than any other in the world,
the slow torture is named, instead of the other fast miltary corps

every year at 19 of May there is a special ceremony dedicated to the memory of Pontos.

enjoy the 'slow torture' of Evzoni, guard change ceremony

the termination Evzoni is from Homer
Homer names the men of Achilleus, the Myrmidones as Evzoni,
it means the ones who 'well dressed' or better proper dressed.

SO IF YOU EVER PASS FROM ATHENS
especially Sundays when the whole battaglion march for Syntagma and back to barracks
spend few minutes staring them, and maybe get a photo as souvenir.
do not worry, they gave the oath of silence,
THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SAY NO
maybe OXI but that only with the eyes (1 time close nothing, 2 times NO 3 times Yes, if remember correct)

the full costume

Farion (φάριον), a scarlet fez (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fez_(clothing)) with a long black silk tassel, with the national emblem (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_emblem_of_Greece) on the front.
Doulamas (plural: doulamades) (ντουλαμάς, plural: ντουλαμάδες), a long tunic which is the everyday uniform. There are winter and summer versions. The basic color of the winter doulamas is navy blue (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy_blue) and it closely resembles the service uniform worn until 1910, while the summer version is light khaki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khaki), and similar in design to the field uniform adopted by the Evzone regiments after that date.
Foustanella (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fustanella#History) (φουστανέλα), a cotton kilt made from 30 meters (98 feet) of white cloth, with supposedly 400 pleats (Greek (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language): πιέτες) representing the 400 years of Ottoman occupation.[1] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evzones#cite_note-ref1-1) The foustanella derives from the traditional uniform of Continental Greece (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental_Greece).
Ypodetes (υποδήτης), a white shirt with very wide sleeves.
Fermeli (φέρμελη), the waistcoat. Various traditional designs are embroidered on it in white or gilt thread. The yellow stripes (if any) indicate the military rank (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_rank) of the wearer. Sergeants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergeant) have two stripes and corporals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporal) have one.
Krossia (κρόσσια), fringes in blue and white, the colors of the Greek flag (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_flag).
Epiknemides (επικνημίδες), unofficially called kaltsodetes (καλτσοδέτες), the garters. They are made of black silk.
Periskelides (περισκελίδες), white woollen stockings, two on each leg.
Anaspastos (Greek (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_language): ανάσπαστος), inside garter which holds the periskelides in position.
Tsarouchia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsarouhi) (τσαρούχια, singular: τσαρούχι), red leather clogs with black pompons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pompon) (φούντες, foundes; singular: φούντα, founda). Under the sole, depending on the size, there are 60 to 120 nails. On average each tsarouchi weighs approximately 1.5 kilos (3.5 pounds).
A black leather cartridge belt which has a bayonet belt holder case.
When it is very cold the Evzones wear a dark blue cape (κάπα). This was formerly part of the field uniform until replaced by a khaki version in 1910.

They are armed with a M1 Garand (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1_Garand) semi-automatic rifle, with bayonet.

Some infos about the suit

the typical weight is 20 kg without the heavy woolen cap of extreme cold and snow
the shoes are 3 kilos, and have 60 nails and a horse toe
the kilt is 39 m long and must have 400 piettes as long as the estimetion of Ottoman occupation

the bellow video is in Francais
an Evzon Ευζων must remain sillent, and never speak, as also moveless, except if makes the typical march with his fellow partainer Evzon
that create a problem at 70's with foreign women who put the hand under the kilt,
so the code of comunication today is

1 knock at the ground with weapon PROBLEM
2 knocks the ground with weapon signal for the partainer to make a small ballet round

if the Evzon knocks for problem, a typical military soldier goes near him and ask him about the problem
THE EVZON MUST ANSWER WITH EYES,
1 close of eyes is yes
2 times eyes closed is No
3 times is I do not know, or go next question,

Notice minute 2:40 and after
