How were bison hunted 10,000 years ago?

Interesting.

They make a claim that the groups were small because of a probably scarcity of firewood. I can easily poke a hole in that theory. Plains natives burned buffalo chips for fuel. Poop. It was everywhere.

Secondly, the large number of dead animals suggests a large group of people.

Buffalo are also stupid. That is how they were wiped out so easily. In wooded areas a group of people could drive a buffalo herd into waiting ambushes. Tecumseh (Shawnees of Ohio river valley (Siouxan language group)) once shot several Buffalo at point blank range with a bow as they ran past. That could easily be done with the older atlatl/spear tech.

In absence of wood, it would have worked out as the article described. Buffalo were mean and tough and were not like deer or antelope which were more wary and fast.
