As a preface, the only heritage of my family that I am aware of is my Father's paternal line. They came from Austria\Bohemia to America in the 1890's. After taking the Ancestry DNA test I was given the results: 55 Europe West, 13 Italy\Greece, 11 Europe East, 10 Great Britain, 6 Irish and then traces of Scandinavia. I ran my results through the K13 and K36 calculators. My kit number is: A572923
For K13:
# Population Percent
1 North_Atlantic 39.89
2 Baltic 27.13
3 West_Med 15.38
4 East_Med 7.59
5 West_Asian 5.20
6 Red_Sea 2.44
1 Population:
1 Austrian - 4.682754
2 East_German - 6.275900
3 West_German - 6.303449
4 South_Dutch - 7.092863
5 North_German - 9.874775
6 Hungarian - 9.999916
7 French - 11.245903
8 Southeast_English - 11.970048
9 Danish - 12.314337
10 North_Dutch - 12.395913
11 Swedish - 13.125504
12 Orcadian - 13.353619
13 Southwest_English - 14.087176
14 Norwegian - 14.118257
15 Irish - 14.643091
16 North_Swedish - 15.093857
17 West_Scottish - 15.463255
18 Serbian - 15.727265
19 Croatian - 15.971636
20 Moldavian - 17.724926

Using 2 populations approximation:
1 50 East_German +50 West_German - 2.433578

Using 3 populations approximation:
1 50 Austrian +25 North_Swedish +25 Spanish_Castilla_Y_Leon - 1.349399

For K36:

Population
Basque 0.73
Central_African 0.07
Central_Euro 11.86
East_Balkan 2.70
East_Central_Euro 6.81
Eastern_Euro 5.33
Fennoscandian 9.78
French 5.64
Iberian 12.92
Italian 15.11
Near_Eastern 1.57
North_Atlantic 7.35
North_Sea 16.04
Volga-Ural 1.71
West_Caucasian 0.24
West_Med 2.12

Any help understanding my ancestry is greatly appreciated. Is the Italian from Ancestry and k36 just noise? The Iberian portion seems pretty high on k36, but I notice a lot of people have high Iberian numbers. Again, feel free to run my kit through any other calculator you think might help me: A572923. Thanks again for any assistance.

Ummmm.

You have High East Euro-Baltic Score, with a majority North Atlantic. Id Place you In Western Poland going off of that. Now, you also have a large amount of East Med and and Red Sea for someone with such high Baltic. You might have a Jewish or Italian ancestor in the past 200 years.

It could very well be within the range for Austrian ancestry.

Did your Austrian ancestors come from the Tyrol by any chance?

Does Eurogenes bother to publish an average by nationality for these calculators? If he does then compare your results to Austrians, Germans, etc.

Also, use the dodecad calculators at gedmatch. All of Dienekes' calculators have a spreadsheet by nationality.

In K7b, for example, the average for West Asian for Germans is 11%

I found the spreadsheet for K13 Eurogenes, it does seem like Austrian is the closest fit for me. As for my ancestors, there is practically no information about them before their arrival at Ellis Island that I can find. The immigration records shows their last names as Sinkula (or Sinkule, it is not clear) (great-great grandfather) and Sistek (great-great grandmother). Their country of origin is flaky as well, some of the immigration records list it as Austria and others list it as Bohemia. I wish I knew how to research their pre-American history. My mother's side of the family is completely unknown because my grandmother was abandoned as a baby and never knew her parents and my mother has no information on her father's parents either. I can tell you all of my grandparent's surnames, though: Sinkule, Batcheldor, Spear, Newman. If that helps at all.

Do you have a link to the sheet with the averages?

Also, what's your mtdna?

Bohemia is Czechia and shares a long border with Austria. I'm sure the border wasn't static.

Perhaps some of our members with Czech ancestry can chime in. The surnames look Czech and German to me, which is logical.

I haven't posted enough to be able to post links, but the last part of the URL is /spreadsheets/d/1dCZldTIfd-EPjDlpQiFNcHwOtZus9Qdll3pB48zdQG0/edit#gid=0 and it's a google docs link. I don't think I have any information about mtdna since I used AncestryDNA, but I'm not sure.

Thanks. Here's the spreadsheet for everyone else.

I don't see anything unusually "Meddish" at all in your results in comparison to the average for Austrian samples.

What I do see is more of a North Atlantic versus Baltic, which in an American probably means British Isles ancestry.

I say this often when people are first starting to decipher their results: the first thing to do is to compare yourself to your averages for known ancestry.

I probably need to have my parents tested. It's just very expensive for a college student. Also, if anyone here is Czech, I would love any information on my last name (Sinkule).
