I wonder how could they live on Tibetan plateau during ice age?! Nuts.
Possibly this "high latitude" adaptation was adaptation to something else first. Was oxigen lower on earth during ice ages, especially in middle of Siberia away from green plants producing oxygen?

I would guess it was brought to Tibet from Bengal or somewhere in that area.
That could have been the place where the ancestors of Papuans and Australian Aboriginees got their Denisovan admixture.
