US Elections Vote for a president of USA - 2016 election

Well, there's something I can agree with completely.

US Elections Vote for a president of USA - 2016 election

    I suspect you don't wonder.

Countries that believe their culture is superior to others

I'm just a little uncomfortable with that! Maybe I'm missing something, but the people of England didn't know what their genetic makeup was. They made the decisions they made over the generations based on historical events, not their underlying DNA. Those events and how they responded to them...

How factual, reliable and unbiased are the main news websites and TV channels?

Well Dominique, at least we know where you stand.

What is your main source of news?

Agreed. I find all of the cable news alternatives too political/too loud. In the past I've depended on the PBS Newshour, but even they have fallen into the trap of advocacy over journalism. While I do read quite a bit of conservative news (althouse, instapundit, don surber), I always try to...

Countries that believe their culture is superior to others

What an ugly thread this is. You can be proud of yourself, of your family, your community, or your country without being a bastard. It doesn't mean you hate or disparage some other group, but my gosh we can use our judgement to decide if A is better than B. That's how progress occurs, we...

Movies that are better than the Books they're based on

I will remain silent about your blasphemy about Lord of the Rings . . . Now,, how about movies that are just as good as the book, either because they're so faithful or because they make the necessary changes for the screen in the most enlightened way? For me, Age of Innocence for...

Movies that are better than the Books they're based on

For parts 1 and 2 I agree absolutely, but part 3 I found absurd.

    A New YDNA Heat Map

Here is my input. The first map is for my terminal clade, G-Z36217, the second is for its direct ancestor, G-Z726. I think this tells me that my Y-DNA ancestors lived in Europe at least as late as the emergence of Z726 (say 2,600 BC), but were in Britain by the time of the emergence of Z36217...

US Elections Vote for a president of USA - 2016 election

Carter was smart and good man (nuclear physics and habitats for humanity), but those aren't the qualities that make a good leader. A leader doesn't have to be the smartest guy/gal in the room (just smart enough to pick and listen to good advisors) and being practical is far more important than...

US Elections Vote for a president of USA - 2016 election

Well, I'm old enough that I voted for Carter, and I beg your forgiveness! After all, his favorite band was the Allman Brothers . . . what more could a 20-something ask for? Like many, I cringe every time Trump speaks or tweets, but, overall, I like the policies I've seen enacted. I'll probably...

US Elections Vote for a president of USA - 2016 election

Yeah, I don't get it. In 2016 the Republicans had a big field in the primaries, but we ended up with Trump. In 2020 the same for the Democrats and we ended up with Biden. Maybe smoke-filled rooms were actually a better way of picking candidates.

Question What are your BIGGEST pet peeves?

I'll add to my comment above about dog-owners : not picking up after their dogs. The most egregious aspect is seeing those little plastic bags left on the sidewalks and trails. Those aren't filled with candy and they aren't going to carry themselves to the garbage can!

Climate change Is it time for Americans to stop using their air conditioners?

bigsnake, you're not wrong. The beaches here are always cool, but who can afford to live there? On the other hand, El Cajon and Santee are furnaces, which is why I don't live there. I live in-between, in the foothills. It does get hot here in the late summer, August-September. Then it can...

Climate change Is it time for Americans to stop using their air conditioners?

I live in San Diego, it's not necessary (nor the heat). I haven't turned either unit on in 20 years . . . I wouldn't bet that either one works.

Haplogroups of European kings and queens

I think that has more to do with R1b being so common. I am G2a and have only a "sliver" of G in my Y-DNA summary.
