Comparing modern Greek/Balkan populations to Classical/Hellenistic sample from Macedonia.

Isn't this just Davidski's standard model ? EDIT Also, by the Classical to Hellenistic period which is the timeframe set by OP big chunks of the Balkans were already under direct or indirect Greek influence and as such bidirectional gene flow would have already been a thing, let alone by the...

Genetic study A genetic history of the Balkans from Roman frontier to Slavic migrations

A study covering the entirety of Balkans yet somehow we (Greeks ) are the "target" of bad faith comments once more like WE are the ones constantly obsessing over uniparentals and Slavic admixture and not some of our Balkan neighbours...

Genetic study A genetic history of the Balkans from Roman frontier to Slavic migrations

Unrelated to the thread but Basil II was Laconian from his mother's side. Do you mean someone else ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theophano_(born_Anastaso)

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Now that her results are based on a more substantial coverage, what do you think? What kind of mix would result in her profile? Would a mix of 40-60% Tsakonia-like/old Arcadian and the rest Arvanite suffice or something else is also needed? This is her Ancestry results Some Dodecad K12b...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Can you suggest some? After the closure of the mirrored vahaduo site I'm left with the calculators from admixture studio (many of which still with their original population datasheets ) available and the models posted every now and then on this forum as well as others.

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Update: She took an Ancestry test too! I then used DNA Kit studio to combine her raw data files from Ancestry and Myheritage with the former acting as a base. The coordinates produced by the combined file are below. Her "real" G25 coordinates will follow at a later date, I have her "simulated"...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Angela can you move the off-topic posts to their relevant/respective threads ? The last 3 or 4 pages should go mostly to the relevant Albanian discussion thread. Thanks in advance! On topic, with which company it's best to retest her ? Ancestry ? If that's so, does anyone know if the european...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Sure! Please post any possibly interesting result that you might find if you use it with the available datasheets. In my friend's case, her grandson, who is of very mixed (greek) background his Myheritage kit produced VERY similar results with his WGS derived kit which had basically 100%...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

He is a single individual, "Illyrius" from the forum ending in ....-city to be exact. While he is an outlier he has a close match on gedmatch with similar results (also Albanian). Interestingly he is R-U152 but I don't think it's resolved further downstream.

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Forgot to add, just for fun, her actual ethnicity estimate from Myheritage... I know their estimates leave a lot to be desired but her significant Balkan shift at least seems logical according to her ancestry. For this reason, her placement on the "Italian" cline is more of a coincidence -I...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Just did a K13 3D PCA run. She is still on the "Italian" cline but On the Z-axis she is on the same level/height with South Italians and some Balkan subpopulations (some Greek and Albanian regions) . The Central Italian averages form a cluster far "lower" from all of them with the only Balkan...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Yeah, I saw it after posting my message, thanks! Similar case for Dodecad too then, interesting! Any other calculator worth playing with? (My friend will buy her G25 coordinates soon)

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Knowing full well that the results of a single individual could be very different from the average, I was wondering, what kind of mix could have resulted in these type of results ? Would a combination of east Arcadian and Arvanite/Vlach like populations work ? Her village is right next to the...

GEDMatch Greek from Elis (Western Peloponnese) Gedmatch results

Myheritage kit. What do you think about her results? Supposedly her village (right on the borders with Arcadia) is an old mix of Arcadian migrants from the vicinity of modern day municipality of Gortynia and local people from Elis. Eurogenes K13...

Greek belonging to I1-L22 (I-Y16808* branch) - Yfull results

The latest (and possibly last for quite some time) update on my friend's subclade. Interesting that not only his line separated quite early from the Bulgarian one but the Bulgarians themselves have quite old TMRCA between them ( pre-slavic ? )

K12b Eupedia Ancient Ethnicities Checker: reliably compare your DNA to ancient populations

The 2-way models for my Greek friend and his mother. Not amazing fits though Can someone help me "read" the results ? My friend usually plots like a slightly Caucasus/Anatolian shifted Smyrniot/NE Aegean/Cyclades Greek so as far as I understand the non ancient Anatolian/Caucasian populations...

Genetic study The origin and legacy of the Etruscans through a 2000-year archeogenomic time transec

Genetic study Ancient DNA of Roman Danubian Frontier and Slavic Migrations (Olalde 2021)

I think I recall reading a post here giving the percentage of R1b-U106 in non Slavic Balkan peoples ( Greeks, Albanians ) as an example of the very small contribution (in comparison with the Slavic) of Germanic DNA to the total northern input of them. While I agree that the contribution is...
