Trying to shop for a Belgian real estate - but sellers conceal their addresses

I found out why addresses are concealed: selling agents are afraid they will be cut-out of the deal. It's an illegitimate fear, because they only need to write their contract of service properly. Anyway, as a matter of principle, I am ignoring ~95% of the houses for sale, and only considering...

The good beers are in glass - I want plastic bottles, or something lightweight

In case anyone else tries to find light weight ways to ship beer, Kegkeg supplies cardboard kegs to roughly ~20 Belgian breweries. However, they're less popular because they're more expensive than metal kegs. The 20 liter keykegs are more rare than the 30 liter ones, and so a min order of...

Belgian beers available in the U.S.

I would like to know what Belgian dark beers are (and are not) exported to the U.S. The plan is to travel to the US, and make sure none of the precious little airline weight allowance is wasted on beer that's already shipped there. I know Chimey Blue is available in the U.S. Has anyone...

getting quick service at a Belgian commune

I tried the strategy of appearing at 11am, and was sent away. They said they "ran out of numbers" for the day for the particular task I needed. So in the end it actually makes sense to flood in with the crowd in the morning.

French classes for English speakers -- do they exist in Belgium?

French classes tend to be advertised as the "full immersion" style of teaching. I would be interested in finding non-immersion French classes, where some of the instruction is in English, at least initially.

getting quick service at a Belgian commune

I notice the brussels commune floods with people before they open, with residents competing for low numbers. Is the early rush just people needing to get to work? Is service quicker when arriving later, like 11am?

How often are moderated posts approved? I posted a reply in this thread roughly 2 weeks ago -- it still has not appeared.

The good beers are in glass - I want plastic bottles, or something lightweight

Something like this would perhaps be ideal, if it can be ~20 kg.

The good beers are in glass - I want plastic bottles, or something lightweight

With overseas shipping costs so high, it hardly makes sense to ship glass bottles of beer. Is there any way to buy good beer (e.g. Rochfort 10) in a plastic bottle? Or perhaps a thin walled keg that has been crated?

    Jurisdictions and EU implied warranties

I bought a mobile phone from a vendor with sites all over the EU, where the manufacturer is UK-based, and the product shipped from the UK. It came with no warranty statement. Does this mean I automatically get a generous 6 year implied UK warranty? Or is the warranty based on where it was...

What do you think of homosexuality (and gay marriage) ?

Out of curiosity, do you also oppose separation of church and state? It's rational to oppose homosexual legal marriage, but only if you also oppose heterosexual legal marriage.

    Attending College in The Netherlands

Business is a specialty of some schools in Brussels, IIRC. For intl business, brussels is the first place I would check. As far as language goes, apart from UK cities, you will not find an easier city to speak English in than Brussels. I'm not sure about the classes though. I have heard that...

    Attending College in The Netherlands

Definitely get out of the US, for a change. Where you go doesn't matter so much, but good choices for you would be netherlands, belgium, canada, spain, and new zealand. Choose your career, then pick a university in one of those countries that suits your industry. Antwerp, Belgium would be a...

What do you think of homosexuality (and gay marriage) ?

Separation of church and state should trump. This means "marriage" should not even be recognized by the state. The state should do a find-and-replace done on all legal text, replacing the word "marriage" with "civil union". All current marriages should be automatically converted to civil...

Economy Real productivity of European countries

I would consider the figures more of a measure of efficiency than productivity. The less you work, the more efficient you will be. European countries have the shortest workdays, so they should trump if you divide output by hours worked. Measurements aside, I don't think any country can exceed...

Economy Online shopping in Europe - hindered by lots of obsticles

It's been a rough experience shopping online in Europe. I'm tempted to not spend any more time with online shopping, but I wonder if I'm missing something. Is online shopping as dysfunctional for others as it seems to be for me? These are the issues: Merchants often do not ask for VAT...

Economy Belgian banks to block debit card use outside Europe

I'm not able to post my reply. So I've posted it to the pastebin site with article number "mCstM6GM". Note there are no URLs in that message, but eupedia falsely detects that there is.

Economy Belgian banks to block debit card use outside Europe

Most of the banks in Belgium have recently decided that fraud outside of Europe is too frequent, and on Jan.17, 2011 will prevent their debit cards from working outside of Europe. This could amount to a substantial inconvenience to travelers. I don't have permission to post links, but I...
