    R1b1b2a1a

Cheers mate for you extensive post. I wasn't aware that the naming conventions had changed as 23andme gave me my haplogroup in that form. I thought the mutations may have been relevant in determining the subgroup but you managed to find out it is U106, so thanks for helping me out. :) As for...

    R1b1b2a1a

Hi there. I have recently received my results from 23andme but I have a few questions if anyone could help me out please. My results state that my Y Chromosome Haplogroup is R1b1b2a1a and my MtDNA Haplogroup is V. I've been trying to find information about R1b1b2a1a but I haven't found much...

R1b-L21 (S145) in Slovenia and Sicily?

Having had a look over the Haplogroup maps I thought it was strange to note the 1-5% occurance of R1b-L21 in what appears to be Slovenia. Anyone know why this could be? Also, what about the reasonable occurance in Sicily? http://www.eupedia.com/images/content/Haplogroup-R1b-L21.gif

    Haplogroup I in Ireland?

Also I-M423 in Scotland? I presume that must have came over with the Gael invasions otherwise i have no idea. That must mean I-M423 arrived in Ireland before the 5th century when the Gaels expanded into what is now Scotland

    Haplogroup I in Ireland?

As far as i'm aware there were no Viking or Gothic settlements in Western Ireland other than Limerick but that surely couldn't explain it, especially not the I-M423. Picture shows Viking settlements during the 10th century

    Haplogroup I in Ireland?

If i'm not mistaken it's saying that there is I1 and I2 present in Western Ireland. Is this just from the pre R1b expansion into Ireland from the pre Indo-European settlers? I don't know of any Viking settlements that correspond to that area. Also, I-M423 is I2 is it not? How did that get there...

origin of people of Scotland and northeast Ireland

This would make sense from what i understand: http://www.eupedia.com/forum/showthread.php?26651-Scots-how-Celtic-are-they I just thought that its very unusual how much circumstantial evidence for this there is.

    New map of R1b-S21 (U106)

Interesting map, Maciamo. What particular reason is there for the low percentage of R1b-S21 in what appears to be central-east Germany? I was thinking Sorbs but they're further East than that are they not?

Greatest Belgian contributions to the world ?

Maybe the Picts were actually Smurfs and that whole thread we were following something completely wrong!

origin of people of Scotland and northeast Ireland

This was pre Germanic settlement in Scotland though. I thought maybe it had some relation to them being the "Painted people" too, but the records say that they painted themselves in blue [i believe]. Oh and i'm actually a Rangers fan, born and bred.

origin of people of Scotland and northeast Ireland

Why did the Gaels refer specifically to the Picts as that then? I don't understand

origin of people of Scotland and northeast Ireland

Also, i'm not sure what the general consensus was in the end after reading through this thread. Was it accepted that the Scythians aren't the ancestors of the Caledonians, and it is perhaps people from the Balkans (due R1a rates not matching), or could it just be that due to intermixing along...

origin of people of Scotland and northeast Ireland

Sorry to bump a thread after it being inactive for so long but i found this really interesting. Whilst reading i remembered a further possible link between the Picts and the Balkans with the etymology of the name "Alba", although there is no proven link...

Greatest British contribution to the world ?

I wouldn't have said the English language. If anything thats probably one of the things i despise the most - the fact that it has destroyed so many native languages across the world and wiped them out, i find that a very sad thing indeed. Plus its nothing but a mix-mash of French/Latin and...
