Ancient Rome Test (Various Calculators)

@Kingjohn,

Those Sicilian samples that Palermo asked you to post look very familiar. Are they from Sikeliot's cache and now floating around on the internet?

I'd just advise that I wouldn't bet any money on them being randomly chosen. :)

Angela: I don't know where they came from, There was a thread in another forum where I think Kingjohn posted them. I have to go back and look where I first saw them. I think there was a thread where Kingjohn posted the Kit numbers and I took them and ran the Dodecad 12B coordinates to see how they compared to my own.

Hopefully KingJohn can quickly remember which thread he first posted them here.

Angela: Here is where the GEDMATCH Kits were posted by Kingjohn in the thread linked above. He posted them in post #381 and I quickly ran my coordinates using Eurogenes K13, to see how these samples looked on that one, and then ran those GEDMATCH Kit numbers ok K13 and looked at there distances to Italian regions. (See my post 382).

In post 385 Kingjohn told me they were individual samples and he also posted some Greek GEDMATCH kit numbers. I have not run those Greek samples to see how they match up with population averages.

That is the best I can do.

Thanks for the results king john, but this kind of demonstrates the limitations of using tools like this. Western Jews are about half-near eastern, with eastern Mediterranean, and central Mediterranean admixture, as well as Slavic and/or Germanic input. Western Jews are not central Mediterranean, only partly. Sort of like the way a half-English, half-Chinese person would plot with Indians. Or an Irish person with a Korean great-grandfather would plot with Sami, it doesn't make him Sami. I think your Bulgarian ancestry is pulling you towards the position you plot in, because your Ashkenazi, combined with your Sephardic would plot you more "east".

Agree with you jovialis👍
The sefhardi+ mizrahi ancestery pulling
Me east..
And the bulgarian ancestery pulling me back to the center...
I

P.s
Angela and palermo trapani i don't remember in which thread i posted those gedmatch kits...
To me personally they doesn't look strange...
There is variation in each region i remember the crotone calabria sample is more north than cosenza .. 🤔
I think it is normal there is variation even in same region... 😉

Kingjohn: I went back and searched my own posting history and found I responded to your post 381 (my post #382) in the thread I linked in my previous post related to Genetics of Greeks and Jews, etc. I also posted in #410 of the Genetics of Greeks and Jews thread my own DNA and looked at the distances from those Gedmatch Kits you provided.

Do you remember where you got those Kit numbers? As i noted it was Eurogenes K13 that I ran a comparison on, not Dodecad 12B in the Greek and Jewish Genetic affinity thread which again is linked in my post #223 above.

I do remember after going back and reading some of my own comments in that thread that at some point it got a little heated and some of the discussion in that thread was later moved into the thread related to Steppe ancestry in Sicily, etc which is linked below. My memory was confirmed in that I recall some discussion about G25 models, or more so maybe sample selection issues, etc got heated and you can see where some discussion was moved from the "Greek and Jewish affinity thread" to the "Steppe and Iranian related ancestry and Mediterranean" thread.

The samples were from zetaboards forum 🤔
Someone posted them there back in the day😉

As I thought; my memory rarely fails me. :)

I knew I recognized them.

They're probably in G25 too.

No wonder Eurogenes dumped the whole thing.

What is the zetaboard forum, I wasn't around? These were samples that were part of the Eurogenes source data that were in the original K13 or K15? Those were always problematic in my view, the updated samples are better in K13 and K15. I have no clue about G25.

Edit, I went to the Zetaboard forum that you linked.

For clarification and for the record, I didn't ask Kingjohn to post those samples. He posted them in the "Greek and Jewish thread" earlier this summer and I just ran them to see what they looked like. In fact, I asked him then what these samples were as I noted in posts above. I know nothing about those samples other than what Kingjohn has told me today, i.e. he got from from zetaboard.

Again, I am not looking to getting into any heated arguments here just the post in 221 implies I asked him to post them, I did not.

Relax 😎
Those samples are ok
They do represent south italians
And sicilians wether people here
Like it or not... 🤔

P.s
and indeed when you run there k12b values
In jovialis roman test 98% of them
End up in c6 cluster so everything
Is fine 😉

KingJohn: No problems with you man, you have been very cordial and willing to address my questions about those samples. And you are correct, they load in the C6 cluster which is where I land as well as others whose ancestors are from regions South of Rome. I did not like my name linked with this sikelot as...hole in an earlier post.

Regards,

Like it or not...

Speaking in this manner to people is not welcome. It shows bad faith, and is confrontational, please do not do that. As I am sure you know, Western Jews are only partly "Mediterranean C6"; much of their ancestry is Near Eastern, Eastern Mediterranean, with additional Germanic, and/or Slavic ancestry. Thus the position they fall in is irrelevant, in the same way it is irrelevant for the relationship between South Asians, and Mestizos. This calculator isn't able to discern the difference, it is only looking at the numerical value of which it plots on a 2D PCA.

Goodness, King John,

All of a sudden you didn't sound like yourself at all.

I would think that by now everyone would know that any list composed by Sikeliot of theapricity fame, among other places, should be approached with a bit of skepticism. I mean look what they did at theapricity with the pigmentation of the Emperors. Plus, he was notorious for posting pictures that were mislabeled. I caught him at it myself.

All I meant is that while those kits may belong to Sicilians they may not be totally representative of the variation in Sicilian people.

He did the same thing with Calabrians. I have a large collection of samples, and most of them were far less Eastern Med like than the ones he posted. I have about ten Sicilians too, and they too vary a bit. He did a fair amount of picking and choosing.

Of course, they would still probably mostly fall in C6. It was a question of degree.

Agree jovialis
Yes western jews are mixed
Here is my results in your test

Kingjohn/Jovialis/Angela:

Kingjohn: If I came off as badgering you in any of my questions, that was not my intent. I just want to clear that up with respect to the Like it or not comment, yes it was a little flippant, but I as I said in my earlier post you have always been cordial and civil with me since I have been here. As I noted in an earlier post, when you first posted those Kit # I did ask about the source of them, although in hindsight maybe my wording of my original question about these Kit #'s was poorly worded, which of course is on me.

So that is why I wanted to be sure where those Kit #'s came and if Angela is correct, and I have no doubt she knows a great deal about individual samples being taken out of various source population spread sheets that are by definition, unless they were randomly selected, are potentially not representative. So Angela is correct on that point.

So in the future, all I ask is if Individual samples from Sicily, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata (all of Southern Italy, etc) are posted to the board, just give a heads up on where the source of those samples are from because I am going to be very interested to see how those samples plot and show distances relative to mine, etc.

Lastly, and I am going to say this as clear as possible another time, I in no way want to be associated with any troll from any other board whose sole goal in life was to troll people whose ancestors are from Southern Italy in general, or in particular, Sicily, or Calabria, or whatever. I have been here long enough here at Eupedia for people to see that I generally mine my own business so to speak and stay in my own lane with respect to what types of forums and threads I post in. That is for modern populations, I stay in the Italian and Greek threads almost totally. And I will venture into the Neolithic, Mesolithic threads as those defacto are not tied to any 1 modern ethnic group.

So Kingjohn, In summary, if I came off again a little accusatory I apologize but at the same time I want to be clear where I am coming from

Peace and Cheers. PT

Everything is ok 😎
Maybe my words were not polite
But i also didn't like the fact angela conected
Me to this person (siceliot and his agenda)) ...
Like he gave me those kits... 🤨
I am not his friend... (never was)🤨
If those kits are not representive of south italians and sicilian.. and the person who posted them in zetaboards did got them
From siceliot how should i know that ....🤔

KingJohn:

Good deal. Everything is ok with me as well. Thanks for the civil dialogue.

PCA demonstrating samples by era, as well as haplotype sharing. Which makes more sense then lumping them all in arbitrarily by time period.
